Hi all! I give Grover quite a few treats a day - after each BG test and each insulin shot - so I want to be sure I'm not messing up his numbers with them. Do you know of any low carb treats that are good for sugar kitties? I've been buying grain free treats and looking at ingredients for obvious things that would raise his sugar (I noticed some of them use maple syrup!) but honestly I'm just kind of guessing!

My cats love freeze dried chicken. Even though you can find it where the cat treats are in your pet store, look in the dog treat section. You can usually find a bigger bag of it there and the price is cheaper per ounce.

Here are a list of low carb treats, but pretty much anything that is pure protein is good, even boiling up a plain chicken breast and cutting it into bite-sized pieces will work.

Freeze dried or fresh shrimp did the trick for Bob. Zero carbs.

KPassa offers a great list and I would like to add that my sugarcat and civvies go crazy for Orijen Original Cat Treats. They are freeze dried and don't affect bg. I get them from chewy.com, amazon or my local pet nutrition store when they have them.

Thanks to all of you who replied to this quarry. I've learned a great deal from your postings. I have been hesitant to give Stewey and treats. Now I'm going to give it a try. Thanks ever so much for the ideas. Stewey will be very happy to chew something. At this time she is only getting wet food. This will indeed be a real treat for her. Thanks again!
