Hi, My name is Sheryl I have a diabetic cat and 3 non-diabetic cats. I am new to this site, but do know the basics as far as caring for my dc. I realize that it is best to totally take my cats off of dry food: I've been using Purina Md for about a year now. All of my cats have been eating it and are overweight. I've done a little research, and have started to try and feed all of my cats wet food: Merrick. But several of them will not eat it...not to mention it is very expensive for all my cats. Can anyone recommend a good quality, low carb dry food that i can try. They are so high in carbs! The lowest I've found is Natura Evo: it is only 7% carbs. I was very excited to try this cat food, but was told by a salesperson in the petstore that recently Natura was bought out by Proctor and Gamble( the same people who manufacter Iams and some other unhealthy dry cat food). They told me that they have discontinued buying the product because they more than likely changed the formulation and they don't need to note the change. So back to square one again... Has anyone heard of Orijen? It doesn't mention the carbs contained in it. Please help me!!!!!!

My cats don't like Merrick canned either, but they love some of the low carb Friskies, 9-Lives and Fancy Feast flavors. I suggest you try a few more brands of canned food before you give up on it entirely.

Until you can transition over to canned only, you can use Wellness Core dry food. I use that for a treat for Tucker. I feed my foster kittens the EVO and so far haven't seen any formula change.

The cheapo canned Friskies Classic Pate series that you can get in any grocery store has some 6% and 7% carbs varieties (check Janet and Binky's charts to see which ones). Some Walmart varieties are low carb too, believe it or not.

My cats all scarf up the Friskies like it was dry food while turning their noses up at the canned EVO that costs twice as much. There's an artificial flavor in the Friskies that might make them want to eat.

There are also appetite enhancers that I can't remember the name of that you can sprinkle on the wet food.

Thanks for the tip on P&G buying out Natura, I didn't know that. We'll see if they cheapen it up. It seems fishy to me that a pet store would discontinue a product because of something that "might" happen when they carry other P&G products. Makes me think their decision could have more to do with profit margin on the wholesale price of the product. But who knows.

And BTW, welcome!

The EVO dry food is still one of the lowest carb -- I feed some to my civilians and Tiggy (diabetic) gets it as a treat.

They get Wellness canned food 24 hours with some cooked chicken added a few times per week.
