This is a cross-post from the main feline health forum.

Baby just had a low BS of 26. She was drooling and was incontinent on the floor, I believe she had a seizure.

We gave her some Karo syrup and some of the dry diabetic cat food that we have. We didn't give her any high carb food because we didn't have any left from the last time she had a low reading. (5/02)

The big problem that we have right now is that we are getting ready to leave town for the weekend. We are taking her with us and we were planning on giving her something to help her sleep because it severely stresses her out when she rides in the car.

I am not sure what to do right now. The vet prescribed a sedative that is supposed to be safe for diabetics and we are going to pick that up. Just rechecked her BS after 30 minutes and she is up to 49

This sounds like a symptomatic hypo. Please give her more HC food -- adding Karo to her regular LC food works just fine. Feed and re-test in 20 min. intervals until she is in safe numbers and then re-test/feed in 30 min. If numbers are stable, re-test in an hour. Do NOT assume numbers will stay in the safe range. She may bounce or Baby's numbers could drop back into the low range. Not to alarm you but symptomatic hypos can last for a long time. We've seen then run for 16 hours. It would not be unreasonable for you to have the vet take a look at Baby since you're going there anyway. (The vet may want to put her on a dextrose drip which would delay your leaving but may be the safest course of action.)

Also, be aware that Baby may be very sensitive to insulin after this event.

Remember, if you can get on the Board by your phone, we can help. You may also want to make sure you know where the nearest emergency vet is on the other end of your trip. And I want to encourage you to have your vet look Baby over and make sure she's safe to travel.

If this were me, I'd get her to the emergency vet right away.....be sure you have karo with you and give it to her as needed to get her up.

Any chance of filling in her spreadsheet? Even just the last week of numbers will help us. She definitely earned a reduction today.

Unfortunately, we have not been checking her sugar regularly. That will change immediately. Its a fairly traumatic experience for all involved, so we have been avoiding it.

With time - along with treats and extra special lovings at test time - Baby will most likely get used to the testing process. Since it is so important in this dance for keeping her safe, please let us know how we can help make testing easier for all of you. With all the members in this group, we've seen just about every challenge possible, and many people have come up with lots of tips and tricks that work. Post as many questions as you need, as often as you need!
