:nailbiting:When I bought my meter for miss kitty I also took my other cat's blood sugar and it was 54.is that kind of on the low side.another thing is that the meter was close to vets reading but off some so if it was off then sables sugar is even lower than that!my reading last was 416 and stayed around that after I switched her food to better stuff.the vet reading was 375.so scary at thinking sables could be that much lower than a low of 54?!:nailbiting:

A normal cat may run 40-120 mg/dL on a human meter.

If you're just starting out, you need to know
1) don't shoot below 200 mg/dL until you have data showing it is safe
2) you want the glucose to be above 50 mg/dL on a human meter and 68 mg/dL on an AlphaTrak as going below those numbers puts the cat at increased risk of hypoglycemia, which can be fatal.

I'm sure Sable is fine. Blood sugar naturally goes up and down during the day depending on lots of things. As for the difference in readings, that is normal too. If you take 2 readings from the same blood drop you may get a slightly different number. If You ever do take a reading that seems off, wait a bit and retest.

I would get some more readings before I buy insulin. 54 is a normal number. If you get readings in the 40-120 range consistently, it is possible that she is not diabetic. It may also be that the 54 was a bad test and not accurate (too little blood, too much blood can cause this). But I would definitely get some more readings so you can figure out where her numbers really are.
