Haven't posted in years, Maggi has been doing well on Lantus, everything fine until about three months ago when the middle section of her tail hair fell out. Vet gave a shot for infection, did nothing, I googled something and had some anti-fungal ointment which worked. tail hair almost entirely grown back but I noticed she has been losing weight a few weeks ago. She still eats her Royal Canin prescription food, still drinks and uses litter box. However, she is extremely lethargic, has been spending time in my lap until a few days ago and now prefers the wood floor by a window. I put blankets down for her a few days ago and she seems happy. She still purrs when I hold her but tonight she actually jumped into hubby's lap, purred like crazy, and he said how skinny she is. And she is. Yesterday I cut her Lantus amount in half since her body weight is down, thinking that may also be part of reason she is lethargic. Tomorrow I will call a vet for appointment but thought I'd check in here. She will be 15 in March. She still eats and drinks but less than usual.

Are you home testing her blood sugars? Your signature sounds like she's not on insulin now?
Is she eating and drinking her usual amounts? You say less food, but how much less?
Getting blood work done by the vet is a good first step. There are several reasons a cat may be losing weight if they are still eating their normal amount of food.

If she is eating less, is lethargic and you have cut her insulin in half I would test for ketones in the urine using Ketostix
