Considering this is the first time ever that I've had a chance to take a trip since Blackie's diagnosis, I'm extremely hesitant about raising her from 1.5 to 1.75. We leave next Friday, May 31, and won't be back until June 8th. She'll be staying with someone during the time we're gone, and I really don't want the sitter to have to worry too much about her. I know that Blackie will be stressed out due to a new environment, and I really expect her #s to go up because of it.

Question: Do I raise her to 1.75 right now, or keep her at 1.5 until we get back from the trip?

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated, and I thank you.

FWIW, when I travel, I have a vet tech who cat sits come by twice a day. I lower Gabby's dose in order to keep her safe.

If you want to raise Blackie's dose now, it shouldn't be a problem. I would, however, suggest you lower her dose while you're gone unless the person she's with is going to be able to test regularly.

The babysitter will be able to test regularly as she also has a diabetic kitty, too. Considering Blackie's #s are a bit on the wonky side right now, like I said, I'm on the fence about raising her, or keeping her on this dose. If I raise her, there's a good chance that she may drop between now and next Friday. If I keep her, there's a good chance that she'll either maintain her current #s, or raise them a bit, and I KNOW she'll be raising her BG's in 2 weeks when we're out of town. To raise her now would mean that she'll be lowered again before we leave, which in my opinion is almost pointless. See my dilemma? This is all new to me.

Decisions... Decisions...

One other thing is that she has been on 1.50u for 9(?) days now, and keeping her on 1.50u for another 14 days shouldn't be a problem, I would think...?

Hi Angela,
I think that in your situation I would keep Blackie at her current dose until after you return from your trip. She'll be safe. You won't have to worry. The sitter won't have to worry. Blackie's progress may be set back a little, but she'll recover. The important thing is that she will have the consistency of her dose. You can raise it when you return. Have a great trip!

Hugs, scritches,

It sounds like you've given this a good deal of thought. You know Blackie best. Your post reads to me like you know what it is you want to do!
