Like we needed this right? All those have seen or read the projections I hope, we have been over due for a hit but would not mind holding the record for the state with the lest hurricanes in the world.

Make sure you and your furkids are ready, sometimes these things breed bad local weather even if it changes course. We ride them out all time because of our location, and our home is cinder block and stands winds better. Though out roof might not in some cases.

Sad thing is we have to ether work or be out of town on that day for personal business. Not to mention we are not exactly well suited to be ready, hence the reason for help with April. Egads, why can't these things come in parts and not all at once.

But, if it comes all of you be safe!

Hi fellow Flroidians! I'm watching those projections eagerly. Stopped at PetsMart tonight to stock up on food *just in case*. One less thing to worry about as it gets closer. Best of luck to you!
 
Funny this would come up. My mom said something to me about an emergency kit for Cedric. I have a 1st aid kit, but she meant if a storm comes and if he gets loose.
I moved here in July 2004, and was living in my apt 1 week when charley came/hit. ten times worse than a blizard and glad I wasn' alone. My mom's youngest bro was living in St Pete and got evacuated, so he came to me. He's a real estate apraiser, and had no qualms about staying in my strudy apt bldg. Midora was with me then and hid the whole time. Heck, she used to hide in bad thrunderstorms!

Cedric has only been thru TS Faye. I think the only thing we might need is sand bags for the garage door - the other doors are up several inches, so they chould be ok. We'll be watching Irene...

As long as we don't get a repeat of the 3 huricanes in 6 weeks like we got in 2004. I sure became good at helping get Downtown Disney ready for the storms! :-D
 
Man I hate this time of year here.

First, to all members in Florida, I'm thinking about you and hope it misses you completely. You know what to do, you know if or when to leave. It's just a part of our lives.

On the SE SC coast, we haven't had a direct hit on the island I live on since 1979 (David). We have dodged lots and lots of bullets in the 33 years I've lived here, and just missed Hugo when it turned north at the last minute. I've evacuated once.

Working in a campground whenever someone mentions the word Hurricane is awful. First thing I did today before I went to work was DL a hurricane tracker app for my phone. Just so I could show people when they asked "look, it shows Miami, and not for at least 4 days." It's the local weather channels that make lives miserable. Every time a wind blows, they start widespread panic.

Today's big question "So, what is that hurricane going to do?" Correct resposnse "It 's too far away for anyone to know, but if it becomes a threat, my job is to make sure you get evacuated once the Governor directs us to do so. You'll have plenty of warning, and if you need to know something, I will come to your campsite and let you know."
Now go enjoy the rest of your vacation, and turn off the dang satellite TV! The sun is out, it's 90 degrees, and there's 4 miles of beach just waiting for someone to go lay on it.

What I'd rather say - "DO I look like Jim Cantori??? Why don't you tweet him, ask him where he's going to be on Thursday night. Then DON'T GO THERE!!!"

Good thing I am in the office alone, as I just cackled like a hyenia at your comments, Carl. I was thinking about SC this am when watching the weather on our NBC affiliate. I was going to post a comment on my uncle's FB wall "are you ready?" since this is his first possible storm on Fripp (they built the house in 2009). Their house is about 300 yards from the beach, but apparently has all the bells & whisles to protect (except I don't think he has shutters). Hope it misses.

This morning I was also thinking about the stray I have been feeding. I have seen him disapear into the bushes, which rub up against the fence behind our townhouses. The fence is on a small hill/incline and then on the other side of the Cross Seminole Trail, there are some woods (part of which is a conservation area that has a chin link fence). The best place for him (besides my garage, but I don't think I can get him in there again) might be in those bushes against the fence. There is room for water to go under the fence, so it won't pool (the hill/incline is there). I swear this stray cat is the cause of my rise in BP!!!

I will guess that we will have a meeting here at the office on Wednesday to discuss the situation (did I mention the owner of our company owns this piece of crap building we are in?!)

I'm in Florida - lived thru Andrew.
Joey's stuff is already in the evac briefcase - photo of him, rabies tag. His hard carrier is always clean and ready. I have lots of litter and canned food on hand, if we have to go.

I installed high impact windows, but I still won't ever sit thru another one.

The last time we all evacuated, Joey was in a motel with other pets around and for the only time in his life, he actually went under the covers with me. The rest of the time, he stayed in his carrier - door was open, but he liked his snug retreat.
 
We are in central Florida. Weezer went through the 4 storm year, but that was before diabetes. Her numbers go up even in a little thunderstorm, so I'm guessing we may have more than rain and wind to deal with. Good luck to all.

My brother and his family are flying into Miami on Saturday for their cruise leaving on Sunday .. hope the hurricane totally misses you all!
 
We went through the 4 storm in 2004 as well. We lost about half our roof, took 6 months before it was fixed (insurance thank God), hurricane Jean did us in. We still have no inner doors to the whole house, and the back porch never got %100 finished.

I have a generator but not enough cash on hand to get gas till Friday! I hope this thing passes us up, and if it makes a close pass it will at least cause serious in land storms and possible tornadoes. :shock:

At least April got to see the doc-doc and is on the mend so far. Everyone else seems to be OK, as for Dad he is always trying to pull his hair out for some reason. :oops:
 
Gosh guys, prior hurricane seasons have been with kitties that ate dry food, good thing I read this post! I'm off to the store to buy more wet food, even though we're on the west coast of Florida these people will start panic buying really soon. And I thought I was prepared!

One time there was a tropical storm and we were without electricity for 4 days. More importantly, we were without air conditioning! Don't want to go through that again!

This is also a good time for Floridians to:

make all the ice you can in your freezer. Those plastic shoe boxes make nice big cubes.
fill those gallon jugs with water
fill the tub with water
clean out a trash barrel ( heats water for 'showers' if you lose power
top off your gas tank
get cash
check your candle and flashlight supply - batteries -

Don't try to stay if you are ordered to evacuate. Everyone who's ever been killed in a 'cane wanted to 'ride it out'.

Unfortunately, Carl, it looks like Irene wants to come visit you. The latest forecast shows her arriving in SC Saturday afternoon.
 
I moved to Orlando in July 2004, just in time for Charley (and then Frances and then Jeanne all w/in 6 weeks). I am so glad my uncle came to stay with me for Charley. That one moved right over us. I think I'd take a blizzard over a hurricane. I had Midora then, so I don't know how Cedric will react. Looks like we'll just get some outter bands here anyway. I'll be getting more cat food tomorrow, and some batteries too. Have lots of candles (Go Yankee!) and my new bed just got delivered so I'll be comfy if the office is closed!

But the laterest forecast now shows her at the SC/NC border instead of way down here near the GA border. Before I got off work today, I rode my ATV down to the beach and said "No, Irene, begone", and she listened I reckon. ;-)

Every 6 hour update has shifted her east and north. I'm betting that by Saturday, either the Outer Banks or out to sea. I'm sure we'll get big waves, maybe some rain, and a little wind. But that beats heck out of a Cat 3 (amazing it went from a 1 to a 3 forecast in less than 24 hours).

Just wishin' Irene goes off the coast into deeper waters and AWAY! Reading your posts guys...and OOPs....I gotta get Kitty Litter! Tonight we had a thunder -lightning storm..with hardly any of the badly needed rain..JUST as I was getting Heathy's PMPS....my poor scaredy cat .. confused_cat , he hates and all that noise... Stay safe everyone..
