Looking for vet allergy specialist in KCMO region..

I hope it's OK to post this question here since this is the largest group of people I know of who have knowledege in a large variety in cat medical problems. We have a cat at the shelter I volunteer at that needs to see an allergy specialist, her name is Robin and she is a 10yr old grey tabby. She has this horrible rash around the eyes and the shelter vet has been no help. Scraping tests for mange have been negative so we know that's not it. I suspect an allergy, and we would like to have her seen by a specialist. She is such a sweet kitty and I just hate seeing her so miserable. I know when I was asking about vets in the area someone mentioned Mission Medvet as having good specialists. Anyone know if they have an allergy expert on staff, or if there is one in this area?

Thanks,

Paula & Nan

A cat was given to Tony's vet from a shelter b/c she had severe allergies - turned out the culprit was catnip. Just a suggestion.

As for Mission Med Vet, their webpage (http://www.missionmedvet.com/dermatology.html) does indicate that they do allergy testing and have an allergy specialist on staff (Dr. Senter) and states that he's the only board-certified dermatologist in the area.

There's also BluePearl Veterinary Partners (formerly called VSEC, or Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center), located at 110th/College and Quivira (just south of 435). Looking at their webpage (http://kansas.bluepearlvet.com/medical- ... rmatology/) it sounds like they have some dermatologists/allergy specialists working out of their facility. It might be worth giving them a call.

I'm afraid I don't have any first-hand knowledge of the dermatology services at either facility (the shelter I work at works with VSEC a lot, but that's primarily emergency cases - I can't remember where we had our last allergy testing case done, as that was over a year ago), so your best bet might be to just call them.
