I can vouch for the staff at VCA Alexandria. The ER/ICU staff is really great and saved my cats life about a month ago. I switched to use them as my regular vet afterwards and I really like the woman I'm seeing there. They're not holistic, but she's open to the TR treatment method and home testing. I'll give you her name via PM if you're interested.
 
Seeing if I can resurrect this thread rather than start a new one. Any other thoughts/updates on vets in the Alexandria/NOVA area? We've just relocated and sugar-kitty Tasha has always been a tough patient. The vet who gave her the original diabetes diagnosis wasn't ideal. She wasn't well-schooled on diabetes and Tasha hated it there - I think in part due to the other animals (dogs, etc) and environment. We found a great (though pricey) vet that also boarded and Tasha was super chill there. They were cat-only. Now we've moved. VCA Alexandria is nearby but the closest cat-only place is VCA Beacon Hill. Any experience? Or should I try the closer, FDMB-recommended Old Town location first?

I'm going to need to make an appointment sooner rather than later, I think. Both kitties are due for things, we need to figure out boarding/sitter/something, and my other kitty hasn't been acting well the last few days. Thanks!
 
Hi! I still use the VCA Alexandria-the one with the ER that's 24 hours, not the Old Town location. Address is: 2660 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

I'm a big fan of Noodle's personal vet, she does a ton of research and has been open to me home testing and following TR as I said earlier this year. The office keeps great records, we can look through every blood panel she had while she was admitted for 4 days for DKA from the computer in her exam room, and it seems like they generally keep great notes. She had a dental done earlier this year that went really well, too. I've been really happy with her care there overall. The techs are great and the front desk staff is very nice, too. It's not cheap, but I don't think anything in this area is and at this point the benefit of staying is worth any higher cost to me. Please feel free to PM me for a recommendation to our personal vet.

ETA: I know the VCA does boarding, but I've never inquired about price since I haven't had to use it. I would guess the staff could also recommend sitters, too.

Ok, great, thanks Patricia. I like what I'm seeing on their site and that location is less than 2 miles from me. Without a firsthand recommendation for Beacon Hill, I'm inclined to try the Alexandria location first and see if Tasha can be chill there. I'm not 100% sure the issue at the original vet was the dogs - it could've been something else entirely. I'll PM you about your vet.
