Hi all,

Many thanks to the lot of you who have helped me with Savannah, she still remains OTJ after almost two years!!! Can you believe it, especially after being on insulin for 4 years??? Sorry I've been absent, I had a baby last June (he's awesome) and went back to work pretty soon after, which is really the cause of my MIA status. It's hard to balance, baby, work, husband, cat, self (pretty much in that order too, actually cat may be tied with hubby-poor guy).

So after a few years of good health it looks like my little Nana (since she's like a grandma now) may have Kidney Disease. Of course, all I have been doing is repeat bloodwork and soon to be dropping off a urine sample. In any case, I was hoping someone from this boaard could point me in the right direction for help/information. She's definitely lost weight, and has had reoccuring bouts of soft stool/diarrhea, no vomitting, behavior is good, but has definitely taken an interest in water (she used to never drink water except for the past few months), peeing seems to have increased too. They put her on an antibiotic for a few days and it seemed to help her diarrhea and her appetite increased so much that she gained 10oz in a little over a week, but now that she's off her antibiotic she seems to be less interested in her food and more interested in my toddler's, which has been typical for the past few months but is not helping with her tummy troubles. She also ate a mouse a few months back too, not sure if she caught some sort of parasite and that could be the cause of all of this. I'm bummed if she does in fact have CRF, it sucks b/c the vet tech was so happy with her increase in weight gain told me that if it were anything serious she would not have been able to gain weight, I think I got my hopes up.

I hope all your kitties are doing well, as well as all of you!

Love,
dd

Glad to hear that Savannah is still OTJ. What are the test results that are pointing to kidney disease? Tess is considered early stage too and the best thing you can do at that stage is concentrate on lower Phosphorus foods. Take a look at the link to Tess's SS, I have a tab there for foods that are both low carb and low phos.

The best place to go to for info for kidney disease is Tanya's Site. Also "Your Cat" by Dr. Elizabeth Hodgkins is a great book on cat care w/ numerous conditions covered.

Hi,

Thanks for the links! Based on a couple of tests, it looks like she may have it. The test we took on 8/14 registered her Eosinophil at 580/ul and then on 8/22 read at 2760/ul. Not sure what this is yet but there's big difference here too.
Her Creatinine was 2.0 on 8/14 and then 2.5 on 8/22.
Her BUN was 38 on 8/14 and then 53 on 8/22.

We are going to drop off a urine sample tomorrow.

Thanks again to Tess' page and the other links!

Dianne

It's great to hear that Savannah continues to do so well!! And, congrats on the new baby.

Tanya's Site is definitely the go to place for CRF-related issues. I'd suggest putting CRF or kidney questions in your subject line. There are any number of people here who have cats with kidney complications.
