AMPS were 366 thinking this is because Loki used the auto feeder at 4 am. Gave 1.5 unit. Will cut out in between feedings in the middle of the night.

I'd rethink this.....
First off, I like your dose choice.
But instead of the food causing it, it might have been an unseen lower number and this might be a bounce. Can't be sure, and the previous cycles haven't shown you a bounce from a one unit dose. But it's a possibility.
You could reset the auto-feeder to open earlier in the cycle, like at +4 or +5, during the first half of the cycle. That can accomplish two things.
It can prohibit the nadir at night from going "too low", and lessen the chance of seeing a bounce in the morning.
And, it will avoid seeing that meal reflected in your morning reading, because the food boost will be out of the picture 7-8 hours later at AMPS.

The other trick to the automatic feeder is to set it so it will feed him when you want it to, and make a second setting to go to an empty slot 2 hours before your shot time. That way he can't continue to snack past the 2 hour window.

So you got a 50% drop from this dose, which is great.

PMPS at 277 back in yellow better than pink I suppose. :YMSIGH: Not sure how I can bring him down to somewhat better numbers if ever. He eats at 8 am, 3 pm and at 8 pm again. I was not feeding anything till the next morning at 8am, but since I got the auto feeder I set it to feed at 3 am, and since then he seems higher. Will not use it for the next few nights and see how his numbers are.
If I understand this right these numbers that he is getting while better than before are still not good. He has had a Dx for 1 year now and while I have a better grip I think on this. I was so hopping I got have him otj_icon but it does not look like it. I am disappointed for him. I want to keep him with me as long as I can but this does no good I think for his kidneys and other organs. His kidney functions seem good, no ketones, no extra drinking or extra urine. Sorry for the ramble you guys are the only ones who understand how one feels dealing with our sugar cats that we love so much.
Thanks for reading all this.

Oh, Michelle, I am sorry you are feeling down. But yes, yellow is much better than pink and any number under 250 is below the renal threshold. So the thought that if he is below the renal threshold most of the time, it is not damaging his organs. If we could get him into the blues at nadir, he would be considered regulated.

Not every cat goes into remission. But a regulated cat can live a very happy life. You might read some of Elizabeth and Bertie's posts. Bertie has been diabetic for 6 years or so and they have it down to a routine. He is a contented cat and she has just adjusted her routine to his needs. And there are people who post that their cats have been on insulin for several years and suddenly have lower numbers and do go into remission. It isn't black and white; it's that darned every cat is different thing.

Is he purring and eating and cleaning himself and generally happy with life? Remember, he doesn't know he has diabetes. He knows he gets to eat delicious new food and that Mom pays special attention to him. She pokes his ears but he gets a treat after.

Thanks so much Sue, you have been so great with me and Loki, it's hard when you love them so much. It helps so much to be here and for that I am so grateful. He is happy, he plays like a kitten and will demand attention when he wants it, but is always happy when he is near me. He does groom himself well still. He was never much of a purr kind of boy but sometimes I do hear it. He is not vocal but then when I get home from being out, he loves to tell me stories I think or he is letting me have it for going out, not sure which
I never knew the #'s under 250 were normal for kidney function, this is great makes me feel some hope and will work on getting there on a regular basis. He has been such a trooper with no dry food that it's amazing that at 16 he adjusted so well.
Will update tomorrow's #'s in the AM.
Thanks a million again I feel much better.
Michele
