Our cat, who was on the brink of death at the end of July, is still doing amazing. I took him in for a fructosamine test yesterday and got this back from the vet:
"Attached is Logan's fructosamine result which shows great blood sugar control. As a result, we can feel confident that he is still fully in remission and doesn't need insulin. At this point, we don't have to check this again unless you start seeing him pee and drink excessively again or acting off, so let me know if any of those things occur. So good news! Let me know if any questions or concerns."
His result was 208 (normal range 191 - 349)
What made the change for him was a gradual switch to Fancy Feast Classic Pates from dry food and dental treats. He was 8.6 pounds at diagnosis and is now at 11.4. (He is a giant orange cat)
The months before he went into remission were some of the most stressful months of my life, and I didn't know it was possible to exist on such little sleep. And our efforts to pay off our debt were thrown completely out the window with vet bills and supplies. But considering the stories I have been reading here, I think we can count ourselves as extremely lucky.
Logan sends his good luck charm and lots of hope and best wishes to all of the kitties and families struggling out there.
