Logan is back.. maybe out of remission

Well, I strongly suspect logan is out of remission. I plan to test him in the AM tomorrow as it's too soon after he ate, to test him. I have been in this group for a while, but haven't posted for a long time. Logan was in remission.. I feed him and he is still hungry and crying all the time.. he gets fancy feast pate.. sigh.. tomorrow will be the moment of truth..

Have you been testing his BG periodically since he went into remission? (I think the recommendation here is weekly to start and then monthly pretty much forever.) How long ago was the last BG test?

Is he losing weight?

When is the last time he went to the vet for an exam and bloodwork?

If it’s been awhile, it might be time for a visit. I’d request that his thyroid be checked as well. Hyperthyroidism isn’t uncommon in middle-aged cats and can make them voraciously hungry, vocal, and restless. It can also cause increased thirst.

Dental issues and urinary tract infections are common reasons for falling out of remission, so I’d have those checked too.

Please post an update when you know more!

I’m sorry to hear that Logan may be out of remission. I agree about getting him a vet visit and bloodwork (full senior panel with T4, fructosamine, urinalysis. dental check, etc. if you didn’t already do that. I was looking at his spreadsheet and didn’t see any data for 2023, but perhaps you just checked him periodically and didn’t add it to his spreadsheet. Let us know what you find out when you test him. It would be good to get a fasting BG this morning before he eats and then check again in an hour after he finishes.

Those numbers you got in September and October were out of the normal BG range — from the spreadsheet update, it looks like the numbers just started creeping up. Hopefully, it won’t be difficult for you to get him back into remission. Or he may just need the tiniest dose like a .10 or a drop. It will be good for you to be able to see his fructosamine number.

Thx for your reply.. I think he just runs higher.. when he was on prozinc I was giving him like .25 of a unit.. I was literally cutting hairs.

Yes. I understand about fine dosing. I’m hoping that he will remain stable. It’s just that some cats need doses smaller than .25 units. There are doses of .10 which is smaller than a .25 and a drop dose. We can show people how to draw them. But in Logan’s case, I’m really hoping he just has something going on that can be resolved ad he will stay in mostly the green normal numbers.

Logan was one of those cats.. super fine skinny doses.. I had to get those syringes that have the .25 markers on them..

Hi. I’m happy to hear it. Keep checking him periodically and don’t become complacent. You are such a wonderful mom to Logan. I hope he will continue to do just great and be happy and enjoy life and that you will have so many special moments together!
