Hi Lantus Land,

This is Linda and Bear Man, writing on behalf of LLEF (Lantus Land Emergency Fund).

LLEF is running a fundraiser for Rosalie and Morgaine. As you know, Rosalie has been dealing with a very difficult situation with Morgaine for some time now. Morgaine has not been using the litter box. This presents many logistical problems for Rosalie, who struggles with her own health issues. Anyone who has dealt with inappropriate elimination problems with their cats will know that this is a very emotional issue, and one that is very difficult to diagnose and manage. Rosalie has been to the vet many times over the last several months to have Morgaine repeatedly checked out, and has tried everything imaginable to try and resolve the issue. Rosalie does live alone on a fixed income, but has spent a small fortune on litter boxes, litters, cleaning products, supplements, remedies, vet visits, and medications. Anyone would feel the strain of having a cat urinate on the bed, and defecate on the carpet, but when one is also physically challenged in being able to clean the home and the cat after these events, you can understand how one can come very close to the end of their rope.

This past week, Morgaine once again was saturated with urine, and Rosalie was attempting to clean her up when she was badly scratched. This really has become a crisis situation. While there can be many causes for this sort of problem, both physical and behavioural, Rosalie feels strongly that Morgaine's issues are due to the pain of neuropathy. The vet has suggested a short course of treatment with Bupe, followed by a longer course of treatment with Gabapentin, once Morgaine's system has cleared itself of Prozac, which was also tried.

As I mentioned, Rosalie has spent a lot of money on tests and treatments. Rosalie has received a lot of loving support in her condos, and other assistance from friends in Lantus Land. LLEF has contributed from its reserve fund for a thorough vet check and for medication. LLEF's mandate is normally to assist cats in need of emergency medical help. We feel that Morgaine is also facing a potentially life threatening situation. If you read back through her condos, you will see that Rosalie is being stretched to the limit of her resources, physically, emotional, and financially. For this reason, we are appealing to all of you in Lantus Land to contribute to this fundraiser. We hope to be able to cover the cost of Morgaine's upcoming Gabapentin prescription, and future veterinary needs. While we are hopeful that Morgaine is finally on the right track toward appropriate treatment, we know that she has a long road ahead of her. Your help would mean so much to Rosalie, who loves her cat very much, and who is just devastated by what is happening to her.

All donations are very gratefully accepted. No amount is too small to make a difference in what is very likely the saving of a life of one of our own. Please send your donations via Paypal to LLEF4kitties@gmail.com (Please select the "Personal" tab, and click the "Gift" option. Please also indicate your FDMB user name in your comments). Please contact me by PM if you would prefer to donate by cheque. I thank you in advance for your generosity and support.

I want to thank you for startingthis fundraiser for my Morgaine and me. I do love her so very much and have and will continue to do whatever I can to help her feel better. As you all know, when a beloved pet gets ill, the costs just pile up and with this situation, I have purchased so many products not knowing what would work but feeling rather desperate since there isn't a simple solution to what is happening.

When I read this thread I just started to cry, feeling so much love and support, so much understanding about what we are going through. There are no words to convey how deeply moved and grateful I am that the people in this community really care about my sweetheart, Morgaine. Linda truly did put my reality about this into words.

Morgaine has been my constant companion for the past 13+ years. I adopted her from the Humane Society when she was 8 months old. She has been through so much with me. I have had some very challenging health issues over the years and Morgaine has always been right at my side, loving me through my challenging times. In 2004 I spent 6 unexpected weeks in the hospital. I did not board Morgaine because I felt she would be less freaked out if she were at home. Two dear friends took turns feeding her 3 times a day and cleaning her box. They also took turns spending some nights with her so she would not be totally alone. Each night I would speak to her on the phone and she would respond by drooling and kneading the chair she was on while purring loudly.

When I finally came home, she slept attached to my left hand and arm all night. She kneaded my arm and hand to the point that I had hundreds and hundreds of tiny claw nail spots of blood and tiny scabs all over my hand and arm. For the next few days she sat on me wherever I was and wouldn't leave my side. She wasn't letting me out of her sight. That had to be our most intense bonding experience to date. Her sweet love and affection during that time also helped me heal faster.

So, at this time, as she suffers from what i believe to be diabetes related neuropathy, I am recalling how she nursed me back to well being when I suffered from a diabetes related complication. There have been so many experiences like this over the years. Morgaine is a loving and sweet kitty and she has kept me from drowning in my own depression more than once during those trying times.

So, please know that the thoughts, love and support you are all sending our way is so greatly appreciated. I have never experienced anything like this before and i am deeply humbled by it all. From the bottom of my heart and soul, THANK YOU!

Dear Lantus Land,

I thank Rosalie for adding her comments to explain how much this means to her and to Morgaine. We have received $440 in contributions so far. I am deeply grateful, as I know Rosalie is as well, for all of your generous donations to date. We would love to be able to do more, so this fundraiser is still open today, and I humbly ask that, if you have not already done so, you consider sending a donation for Morgaine's care.

With many thanks for your support,
Linda and Bear Man

This is so very true, Linda. I have been through inappropriate elimination problems in the past (I'm lookin' at you, Bailey!) and this sums it up perfectly. It was very difficult and emotionally stressful, and I don't have the physical challenges that Rosalie does! She has stayed very sane while this has been going on, and she seems to have the cause(s) of this problem in her sights now - we have all our paws crossed for her and Morgaine! :YMHUG: cat_pet_icon
