So, I have a problem. Chunk will NOT use the litter box. I've tried a new litter that's supposed to be closer to the feeling of soil, to no avail. It was suggested to me to use Kitten Attract, because either has pharomones to attract cats... We'll see this evening. Does anyone else have this problem?

Also, Chunky's levels were 486 on Tuesday. I'm getting a glucometor tomorrow and will be testing for the first time. The vet said he might have pancreatic hypoplasia. I really don't want to put my cat on even more meds, and traveling to see a specialist is rather pricey for me. Has anyone else had a kitty diagnosed with hypoplasia?

I use Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat litter and they make Cat Attract litter. Their litter is excellent but I have no idea if Chunky would like it. Is he an outdoor cat?

I don't know anything about pancreatic hypoplasia unfortunately. Maybe someone else will weigh in.

You might have said already but what insulin is Chunky on? What dose? I'm very pleased you're planning to home test and would help us help you if you set up the spreadsheet we use here:

One of my cats won't use the litter boxes (I have 5 oversized boxes!) unless they are completely clean; if there is anything in them he won't use them, he'll go just outside of them.

I had a problem getting Java to use a litter box when I had to stop him from going outside whenever he wanted to go, but Dr. Elsey's cat attract litter made the transition from going outside to going inside. Now both cats will come inside from outside to use the litter box, and then go back outside again.

I've read that the litter box is the place where you should be as anthropomorphic as possible, which is to say keep it as clean as you can.

my ckd cat RARELY pees in the litter box. we learned to compromise a few years ago. he will go on the pee pee pad just outside the box, poop in the box, and I won't strangle him. before we came to that compromise I was really at my wits end. if this is a new behavior though, it's probably just the uncontrolled diabetes. I've had good results with cat attract in the past, so I hope it helps you.

Thank you to all who replied! I really appreciate your input. I saw on here that someone had a different way of administering the insulin than what I had been shown, so I've been giving Chunky his shots closer to his hips and I know he's getting the insulin. Hopefully his levels will go down soon. I just got a a second litter box and the kitten attract, so we'll see tonight how he likes it. I do have two other cats who do use the litter box, and I'm hoping that getting a second box will help.

The Chunkster is currently on Vetsulin, at 3U am and 4 U pm.
