Started out at +10 PMPS with a 410, fed 1/2 can of Merrick Turducken, dropped in 2 hours by shot time to 336. I always then question whether the high reading was even in the ballpark. How far off can it be? I have 2 meters, the Contour usually reads 20+ points lower than the Micro, but the Micro was the one that had tea spilled in it, so I don't trust it. The meter at the vet (Accucheck) was higher than mine by a lot (235 vs 296). I'm trying to wean myself of the habit of grabbing another strip and checking again every time, as this is costing me a fortune. Should I just pick a meter, relax, and go with what it says? I apparently need to contact the company for test solution, that might help my peace of mind. (I went to the Walmart pharmacy and asked for it, and the clerk had NO IDEA what it was, or that you are supposed to check the meter every time you start a new box of strips, per the instructions. These are the people filling prescriptions. That's scary.)

So to sum up:
+10 410 BAD
AMPS 336 GOOD (ok, not good, but better)
Meter ????

Everyone have a great day!

Does anyone know if the solution is universal or if there's a different bottle for each type of meter? I would've guessed it would be where the strips and other diabetes supplies are adjacent to the in-store pharmacy at Walmart...although in NC the needles are behind the counter - not sure how that works elsewhere... never had a "habit" before! Maybe you'd do better to call a local pharmacy and ask if the solution is interchangeable.

When I went there shopping for my U100 needles, the clerk was unfamiliar with the fact that they had different insulin needles. When I told her they were for my cat... well, you know the look!

Re: Linus 2/24

Yes, I would just pick a meter and go with it. The one that you compared to the vets is within a normal range. I am pretty sure you need a specific control solution. Call the company and tell them you are having trouble with the meter and you need control solution. (do not mention this is for your cat  you could always say it is for you boy, Linus)

LOL - I think I can get away with a son named Linus, and you're ok with Oliver, I think Grayson would pass, but what about Eukanubo and Sneakers and Nutterbaby and Poopy?

Re: Linus 2/24

I don't know - Poopy might work. They'd think it was a really bitter, cranky Mom. And maybe the same with Nudderbaby?

PMPS is 507! Just when I'm thinking I'm on the right track, I get this. Husband came home late and fed about 7:30pm, shot time was 9:00, so probably food had something to do with it, but still. Only thing I can think of is he snuck some dog food during the day, or he is dropping low when I'm not home and this is rebound. I'll get more numbers tomorrow, I'm going to stay with 1.5 until I know more. I am just so worried, because he doesn't have many symptoms, but the longer his numbers stay high the more problems he could have, and I can't seem to get him down to a reasonable level. I would take yellow with an occasional pink, I'm not even asking for blue.
