Hi all,
I'm a long-ago poster. My cat, Dusty, has been on the juice for about a year and a half now. We've settled into our own dosage routine and things are pretty stable. This morning she tested at 267 and so I gave her her normal dose of Lantus (just over 1 unit). Testing her tonight, she showed a 40 and then a 66 upon retesting. I'm skipping tonight's dose, of course, and she got some of her normal (but higher-carb range) food. I'll be testing her again shortly to see if she's stable, going up, or dropping (at which point I'll give her some high carb food, etc). I've dealt with a few low tests and know and am pretty comfortable with the routine. [Edit: Retest at 90. I'll obviously keep an eye on her, but she seems to be going up.]
Unfortunately, I didn't test her at all today except her normal pre-shot tests, so I have no idea how low she may have gone. But I was around all day and so have kept an eye on her, and her behavior has seemed pretty normal throughout the day. My question: are there any lingering health concerns if she did have a hypo episode that I somehow missed? Now that I'm aware her numbers are low, I can deal with it. But she may have been much lower and I just wasn't really aware. Beyond the possibility of having some insulin sensitivity, are there any lingering problems if a cat does hypo but then comes out of it? Or is the danger only really during the attack itself and, once they get through it, they're essentially fine?
Thanks!
