Taken from various posts to collate into one so we can comment on this thread. I'll try to keep it in order (thanks Sheila).
I've taken everything that I (think) pertains to the thread and placed it here. Now we can add onto this and keep it straight.

Am I missing something or did everyone just stop selling FlexPens from Turkey or the UK or wherever they came from?

Carts from Canada apparently still available for $169. Super cheap Lantus solostar pens are still listed.

The local prices for Levemir (GoodRx.com) don't seem to have changed.

They were there a few days ago but now they don't seem to be listed.

In fact I can't find cheaper FlexPens from Canada from anyone. The cheapest Levemir now seems to be the carts for $169?

The only reason I was looking was for Suze and Pumbaa, and planning ahead for winter.

Wonder if this is some seasonal supply issue, or if I'm not searching correctly?

You are right! I just checked my bookmark and typed in lev- all there were just the cartridges and the higher price for them. The picture, however was the pens.

BUT- when I log on I can still get the flexpens with the old pricing. And the price for the 10 package of 5 pens has dropped by $200. It is now $875 instead of just over $1000.

Very strange and unusual.

You are one to talk- all those greens for Chip- absolutely awesome!

I posted on the other thread about the pens and stuff- but this just hit me- it might be worth it for one of us to buy the 10 pack and the others pay for the packs they need. I think- if i did my math right, it comes out to $87/pack to do it that way rather than $115 for a single pack and $109 for the 3 pack.

Weird, right?

This was done on both posts, so almost the same but not.

An idea...

It might be worth it for one of us to buy the 10 pack as long as they have them and the others pay for the packs they need. I think- if i did my math right, it comes out to $87/pack to do it that way rather than $115 for a single pack and $109 for the 3 pack.

Then again, the cost might be off-set by the shipping to each person.

Weird, right?

That is weird. Like they aren't taking new customers?

If you really knew for sure where Sneakers' dose was headed it might pay to stock up now.

Easy enough to sell the excess but the shipping might be an issue in the winter?

And do you have room in the fridge (even in the short term) for all those boxes?

by hmjohnston » Thu Sep 20, 2012 7:20 pm

Yes, Dale. Then 10 packs wouldn't take that much room. It's just me at home and the pens can live very nicely on the second shelf in a large tupperware box.

Depending on how Sneakers keeps going I might do the 10 pack. I saved a chunk of change for Sneakers meds so actually have about half of that.

WOW!!! Go Sneakers!

The funny thing about the sleeping on your feet... as she becomes "husky" you'll be having your feet fall asleep, and you'll be wishing for the warm weather again! It is cozy, however!

And look at Chip! Woo Hoo to you too!

As for the insulin, maybe? Obviously it works best if we're all in the same vicinity. When we're not, there's extra time on ice and additional shipping costs - and someone's time coordinating it all. Did I hear the Canadian pharmacies only have the pens - not the vials? Or am I dreaming that? And is this the stuff from Canada/Turkey/Britain?

Obviously, economics are huge when you're shooting high doses. I keep thinking that we're gonna have a drop soon... perhaps I'm being a bit dillusional... but just like with the strips, I like that I can run out (at least during pharmacy hours) and pick up some when I start running low. But the bottom line is significant.

So let me make sure I"m clear... you're talkign pens right?
1 pen for $115
3 pack for $327 or $109 each
10 pack for $870 or $87 each 5ml pen

And I was getting the 5-pack at Walgreens for $189, so about $38 each... help - what am I missing?

Lu-Ann, I think the numbers refer to packs of 5... 1 pack for $115, and so on. Others can correct me if I am wrong, but that would make cost for ONE pen $17.40 when you buy 10 packs of 5. That's an awesome deal - if you need that much insulin or can split the order.

Yes, Sheila- that is 10 packs of 5 pens for $875- so far s/h has ONLY been $10 from them- so that would make each individual pen $17.50- 50 pens total.

I wouldn't mind being the central person as I already have a prescription but the shipping from me to someone else could be a bite unless we could find a good way to ship next day like DCIN does for a decent price. Last time I shipped to them she received it in about 12-14 hours- but they paid for it so I don't know how much it actually cost.

One thing we need to look at is the fact that new people- like Dale- can't get/see the pens on the website but old people- like me- can. Does this mean they are selling the stock of pens they have and they aren't going to replace it because they are upping production of the cartridges? The availability of the pens might go down as the stock diminishes. Selling the packs at three at a time the pens are less than $1.50 cheaper. The ten at a time is $5.50 cheaper (and when I last ordered- last month- it was still $1025 for the 10 packs for $20.50 each- pretty much a decrease of $1.50). So it seems they are priced to move.

Re: Levemir from Canadian sellers

Thanks, Heather! That took a lot of work.

If I was still managing an FD I would "buy" into a communal purchase. A lot of work on your end to pack and ship, but this time of year is the right time to do it as the temps are not reaching freezing overnight and, in most place, not getting above 80 during the day.

Re: Levemir from Canadian sellers

I know. Before Sneakers happened to apparently start downshifting I was thinking about getting the large batch sometime in October and just getting the word out that I had some to sell if needed. I'll have to see what the finances are at that time.

Did I catch everything? I tried to get all the ones b/w the two topics that dealt with purchasing and the idea of a large split purchase.

Re: Levemir from Canadian sellers

What I worry about is that they might be phasing out the supply chain or process. For all online Canadian pharmacies?

Or maybe it's a seasonal thing?

Like they can't *mail* expensive temperature sensitive meds in such a way in the winter?

Re: Levemir from Canadian sellers

Venita just found out this pharmacy won't be selling insulin to the US soon. Something to do with a law. Someone on the Acro-site is checking on it.

I think I will be biting the bullet and buying the 10 pack soon.

Re: Levemir from Canadian sellers

It's a directive from the Canadian International Pharmacy Association (CIPA) and that all the CIPA pharmacies will be discontinuing sales of insulin to US customers.

How much you wanna bet that it is from pressure from the US pharmacies who are losing sales to online sales from Canada? Soon enough they will figure out how to cut off other medications too and American's will be stuck with the highest drug prices in the world again with no outlet for financial relief. I'm just thinking of all the uninsured diabetics who buy from Canada to save 50%. (not to mention pet owners who can not get any insurance to tax deductions for pet meds).
