Hey everyone. Recent discussion has peaked my curiosity on the "success rate" here on the Lev ISG. So, if you would indulge me, can you post your FD cat's (cats') state of regulation, how long s/he is/was on lev/lantus and any other pertinent facts that I have not mentioned, like schedule issues?

For reference, here is an except from the FDMB FAQs on regulation:
Not treated [blood glucose typically above 300 mg/dl (16.7 mmol/L), poor clinical signs]
Treated but not regulated [often above 300 (16.7) and rarely near 100 (5.6), poor clinical signs]
Regulated [generally below 300 (16.7) with glucose nadir near 100 (5.6), good clinical signs, no hypoglycemia]
Well regulated [generally below 200-250 (11.1-13.9) and often near 100 (5.6), no hypoglycemia]
Tightly regulated [generally below 150 (8.3) and usually in the 60-120 (3.3-6.7) range, no hypoglycemia, still receiving insulin]
Normalized (Remission)* [60-120 (3.3-6.7) except perhaps directly after meals -- usually not receiving insulin]

I'll go first :mrgreen: :

Beau: 13 y.o., HCM, Hyper-T - on lev 3 months (microdosed), in remission over 2 years (vetsulin 2 years prior to lev)

Jeddie: 12 y.o. - saved from death row, mild neuropathy (cleared) - well regulated (vetsulin one month, remission 3 months prior to lev)
 
Maxwell - Lantus 2 weeks OTJ for over a year
Musette - Lantus 6 months - split-dosing for 5 days regulated

We definately fall into : treated but not regulated
on PZI from 7/5/10 to 2/10/11
Lev from 2/12/11 to present

First go around in 2007 was with humulin 70/30 on it for 1.5 months - then was diet controlled until 2010

I work rotating swing shifts meaning 5 dayshifts one day off- 5 evening shifts one day off- 5 midnight shifts 2 days off-
If not for this Lev ISG group- Vicky and Shiela figured out a dosing schedule specificly for my work schedule by split dosing, reduced dosing and regular 12/12 dosing - I would not have been able to treat Mickey and have him get the full advantage of Lev.

Peggy, don't forget to mention your difficult schedule - that is a factor - and it is also an example, I think, of this group being able to help you manage him while changing his shot times to accommodate your job.

Vicky, don't you think Gandalf was regulated, mostly? And, of course, your schedule changes are a factor with him as well.
 
Alley: 14 year old DX 7-7-07 Humelin N, not regulated, switched to Lev 12-5-10 regulated and microdosing.
 
Yes, Sheila, now that I reread the stipulations to the chart, I agree he was "regulated." There were times when he was well-regulated though, which is probably why I said what I did this AM.

So, Gandalf, diabetic from age 12 to passing, age 18 & 5 mths. PZI from Jan '05- Sept. '07, not regulated.
Levemir from Sept '07 to Oct '11. Regulated with short periods of well-regulation during his time on Lev. Used split dosing technique to overcome my inability to shoot 12/12 schedule every day. Split dosing helped his regulation tremendously.
 
I'll add my two acros:

Shadoe 8yrs acro Lev regulated to well regulated. Any below 100 gets HC but she is mostly closer to 250 or under
Oliver 10yrs acro&IAA Lev well regulated to tightly regulated. While dropping from 37u to 21u, he has stayed well below 200, mostly around 150 or lower with daily dips below 100.

This is great! I like seeing this all in one place. Keep 'em coming. I know we are missing some. Eventually, I will compile what we have even if it is a small number compared to LL.

Gayle, I didn't know you had TWO acros! I guess I wasn't paying attention :roll:

14 years old this month, First dx'd February 2009, was on Vetsulin/Cannisulin from February 2009-July 2009, no home testing so I don't know his regulation status but the way he was acting I now know he was tightly regulated if not over-regulated at 1u BID. Prior vet claims remission July 2009, however in hindsight, I am now skeptical of that claim.

ReDx'd January 2011, on ProZinc from January to April 2011 - well to tightly regulated after discovering he was a micro-dose kitty but he did require TID dosing. Dx'd with acute septic pancreatitis in March. Started Levemir, April 9, 2011, and has gone from unregulated to regulated to somewhat well regulated where he remains. Factors and health complications affecting regulation status include, steroids for pancreatitis & IBD, CRF, and inability to tolerate BGs under 70 mg/dl.

5 years old, Dx'd July 1, 2011, on ProZinc until August 13, 2011. Treated, but poorly regulated, due to too high of dose. On Lantus from August 14 - October 28, 2011, treated, and somewhat regulated. Levemir, October 29, to present, regulated and still in search of the right dose. Clinical signs have improved and he's gained weight, drinking less water, and has soft shiny fur again.

Started on PZI in '07
OTJ in 30 days.
Back on PZI in '10 and PZI was clearly not working and after 10 months switched to Levemir.
Stabilized on Levemir within 2 months.
But better numbers within weeks.
