Today: starting with  and hope to stay in the green/blues!!! I think I'm going in late today.

For all of you who wished Leo to slide on down from the stratosphere, he obliged! 484 to 80! Stinker! I was wondering if we were in multi-cycle bounce and it appears we are. Last night's shot may have been slightly more than his normal 1u. I couldn't get that last darned bubble out so I fattened the dose according to the line by a hair to compensate. Maybe got too much insulin, but by a drop or two. But I don't think that's it. I think he's a STINKER!

Leo is currently doing gymnastics all over his chair. Imaginary bugs, chasing his tail, the works. The first time he did this, we were up at night with low greens. Now I realize he's just being Leo. He cuddled all night long, getting up diligently with me every couple hours for a test (and for CHICKEN!). All P's in place. Still recurrent diarrhea, but the FortaFlora is helping,

Yesterday I overcame my deeply ingrained "do not feed chicken bones to the the dog" rule and gave Leo a small part of the breast area with some of the small bones in it. Because cats eat birds and mice, and need the minerals and what-not in bone, right? Someone on the boards (boy I can't remember who) said they put a raw chicken wing in the tub and let kitty go at it. So I've been nervous about that. But as I prepared the chicken, I gave him a bit (about a square inch) nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile and of course he survived. Does anyone see a problem with me doing that occasionally? He LOVED it and licked the kitchen floor ALL OVER for more

Anxiously awaiting Mannie's Latest Delightful Concoction. It appears the Mannie House of Caffeine Delights isn't open yet. I'm taping my desperate request to the door. MMANNNNIEEEE!!! I made fresh roasted chicken last night. I gave Leo custody of half of it. He's itching for a fun trip today and he'll bring it all along to share.

I have my final training run for a race on Sunday. I am *tired* but will get it done between tests this morning. Assuming he doesn't tank.

Hugs to Claudia and vines to all the kitties everywhere.

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98

Wow Leo.... Don't let those Greeny Meanines in your chair eat you. Looks like a good day for you, but behave so mamma bean can relax a little.

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98

Personally, I would not give chicken bones. They splinter. Raw chicken is fine and when making a raw diet, bones can be included but the bones are ground with the chicken meat.

I'm not sure what syringes you're using. If the plungers are not set correctly, I'd use different syringes. FWIW, if I have a syringe that won't allow me to get rid of a bubble, I use a new syringe.

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98 +1 84

Nice greens Leo! That was some drop huh? So great that he is active and having fun. Have a great day Lisa!!

When he goes, he goes quickly. Darn, now I have to steer a bouncie bounce.

@Melissa - he's always having fun, silly cat. But looks like work-from-home for me, at least for the next several hours. That early drop is the death-knoll for a work day Sigh.

@Sienne - I don't recall where I read that. I was thinking it could be a treat for him. Maybe if I pre-cut them into smaller bone pieces, like short ribs

@Shannan - Leo hasn't mastered the art of a Green Surf yet. Sigh. I knew in the middle of the night, and I knew shooting this morning, he'd jump off the deep end. Little Fart!

Okay, I'm trying to surf him with 11% like I did last time. I don't think it will quite work, but this is an experiment to see if I need to surf him on a higher carb level when he gets this close. He will likely dip below 50, but there is a method to my surfing madness when he's coming off a bounce like this. Next mini-meal will likely need to be higher, but let's see if he can hold it.

Surf baby surf!

@Sienne - I missed your second comment. This box of Terumos is screwed up. I've thrown away syringes before, but the pharmacy only had a partial refill this time so I don't want to toss many of them. (Yes, I need a prescription in NJ).

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98 +1 84 +1.6 59 +2 53

Wooh Leo! A lovely green! Surf a bit higher! Yummies coming soon!

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98 +1 84 +1.6 59 +2 53

Ok, I chickened out a little. I don't want to test every 20 minutes and bug him, just to see how 11% works, so I gave him 15% and will test again in 30 minutes. I have to learn how not to be beholden to this cat when he does this. I've already TOLD HIM I have to work. He just wandered over for another test to get the treat. Little Manipulative Stinker.

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98 +1 84 +1.6 59 +2 53 +3 58

Hi Lisa, Nice green day for Leo  , we will see if how close he gets to the wild side You and Leo are giving new meaning to playing chicken! Seriously, its great that you are to seeking to learn how he responds to foods when there is not a active panic situation. Another session in Lisa & Leo's Learning Lab. I always heard chicken bones are a hazard because they can splinter, cats do eat small birds in the wild but I don't think they eat anything as big as a chicken, do they?

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98 +1 84 +1.6 59 +2 53 +3 58 +4 75

+4 75 - WooHoo!

Okay, maybe I didn't need that last tsp of 15%, but I won't feed him this hour and see what he does. He's had about the caloric intake he'd normally have by now, so we'll see if the 75 holds. I bet he dips a little but again, we'll see what the stinker does!

@Leslie - LOL! Yeah, I'm an engineer. Always trying to figure things out. I know they warn against chicken bones for dogs, but for cats I read it's not so much a problem. I figured the smaller ones in the breast could be similar to a mouse or some dead creature he might trip across. He ground them down' quite nicely, and surprisingly fast. But I'll be careful with that. I think I've gently roped him back from the wild side. Hopefully he'll surf through nadir (although after last night I wouldn't even know a nadir until it nipped me in the backside).

@Helen - he did a good job - he's all in it for the yummies!

@Thanks Sienne - I'm hoping the guy starts to understand what a green SURF is!

@Thanks Barb - I hope the day continues nicely and this isn't just a dip in his grand roller coaster.

@Marje - thanks! I didn't even need Karo (LOL!!!!!!)

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98 +1 84 +1.6 59 +2 53 +3 58 +4 75

Oooh, look at Leo go! Nice to see that wild kitten having fun in the muck. Not so much fun for you Lisa. I'll be watching this condo to see how the experimenting goes.

Regarding the chicken bones, YES it is OK to feed RAW bones. Never feed cooked bones, they splinter. Both Neko and Theo get raw chicken neck pieces (about 1 inch) and Neko gets the raw wing tips, the very ends, as snacks. She loves them and growls possessively over them. Keep an eye over Leo as he eat sit to make sure he doesn't have any issues. I don't feed wing tips to Theo as he doesn't know what to do with them, I've tried, he needs smaller pieces. He is also missing a canine tooth so it could be awkward for him. WIng tips are harder than necks. As a bonus, raw wing tips and necks are great for naturally brushing teeth. From what I have read/heard, it is best to give the smaller, non weight bearing raw bones, ie. no thighs. Chickens are much larger birds than cats would eat in the wild so the larger bones may be denser to bear the additional weight. I don't know if you've ever heard a cat eating a bird (I have, but not my cat), and yes, they do crunch the bones.

+5 113. So, perhaps the 15% tsp wasn't needed after all. Or, it's just part of the long bounce. Happily, now I get a permission slip to go running for a it before I'm back to work (from home).

Hi Wendy - thanks for info on the chicken bones. I think the difference is the cooked vs raw. I also gave him the wing tip and he loved it. I'd never give him a thigh - he'd probably go nuts trying to gnaw away at it! I'll try a neck piece. I didn't think of that. Neko sounds so funny - hunched over possessively!!! The bone crunching does sound kind of monster-ish while it's happening!

Re: Leo 10/24 AMPS 98 +1 84 +1.6 59 +2 53 +3 58 +4 75

Woo hoo Leo!!
Get on that surf board and Boogie!!!

Since Leo is liking his chicken so much, maybe if you put it in a food processor like one of the mini preps that would be easily portable.
Then you don't have to worry about the bone issue. They will all be ground up. raw or cooked.
Easier to give a little water in it too for that added water benefit. He still gets a great treat but you don't have to worry about the "formerly known as Heimlich maneuver " .

What a crazy day you and Leo had. You did a good job managing those greens. I hope he comes back down for you tomorrow, but slowly this time.

Sigh. Here we are up here looking down upon the cool blues and greens, longingly. Well *I* am, he just wants to sit in my chair and watch TV. Stinker.

HI Carla - he made life interesting today, he did! He better come down slowly. I'm needing some sleep again.

HI Ann - yes, Mannie was my MAN this morning!
