Dumbbell move...inadvertently left Lantus of of refrigerator from 5pm (shot time) till now (10pm) -- so 5 hours left unrefrigerated. AHHHHH!! Anyone else do this, and if so, was it still usable and for how long? I opened it on 7/2/12 so almost a month old now, but was hoping to extend it's life to at least 2 months or more. Thoughts?

you ought to be ok - was it a pen or vial?

did it feel cool or warm to touch?

just keep a watch on it, if it appears cloudy or has floaties or you get wonky numbers then it is bad, otherwise it probably is fine.

Thanks Hillary! It was the vial and it just felt like room temperature when I discovered it after being out for 5 hours. I will keep a close eye on it and replace if necessary.

PS: Maui is beautiful. I love how she got her name and she is very fortunately to have found her way to you.

:)

You should be just fine. My last 2 vials, the pharmacy has put them out on the shelf when filling the order when I called it in instead of leaving it in the fridge until I got there so they clearly don't worry about it :( We have also forgotten the insulin out on a few occassions. Just keep an eye on it and on your numbers. If it looks off or your numbers start to look off, then get it replaced.

Our first vial we made it about 3 months and our numbers started to look flat. We were almost into remission and I didn't want to risk that so I got new insulin. Now that we are back on it, we are higher dose and go through vials more quickly, but have went through 3 now before they have gone bad.
