Hello everyone! Today marks the 14th day of OTJ Trial for Artemis however, I'm not updating for 11/06 in this thread due to being absent from the forum since 10/31 due to Artemis's health issues. Apologies on that for those keeping up with his OTJ Trial. Spreadsheet is updated to reflect recent numbers.

Artemis's Mood: Silly, happy on putting his entire weight on one paw on my chest at night :cat:

Health update on Artemis: Starting on 10/22, Artemis was having lack of appetite, lost weight, and did not have a bowel movement. Took him to the vet on 10/29 where an XRay was done to see for obstructions since the vet noticed during physical exam trapped gas in his abdominal area. XRay showed trapped gas in part of his lower intestine. Metrodinazole and Proviable prescribed; Vitamin B12, Cerenia and Sub Q fluids given. The Vitamin B12 helped for a day on appetite; difficult to give Metrodinazole; and no bowel movement.

Took him back to vet on 11/01, another X-Ray was done, gas was no longer there/moved but his stool was probably stuck/hardened. Vet kept him for 2 hours to do an enema which helped flushed out stools. More Sub Q fluids given plus Vitamin B12 injection and Lactulose - vet said hold off giving Metrodinazole. Prescribed Lactulose stool softener and Mirtazapine appetite stimulant to take home. Aside from vet visit on 11/01, that same day Artemis had another bowel movement at home. Supplemented meals with watered down Beechnut baby food and Tiki Cat Chicken Broth to get Artemis to eat more. By 11/03, he had another bowel movement, was eating food offered with no fuss and his mood was better.

On 11/04, check up with vet, gums were checked again, no issues from his stomatitis, vet ordered to stop on the Mirta unless Artemis's appetite goes down (wanted to see if he would eat on his own without stimulant), and lower dosage of Lactulose - Vet wanted check up in one month unless Artemis's appetite, weight does down. No steroid shots as of those visits - vet wants to avoid using those as last resort if current treatment didn't/doesn't work.

Supplements: Due to xanthum gum in the Tiki Cat Chicken Broth and Artemis's issues with his gut (early to say if it will be chronic), I looked on potential broths to help Artemis stay hydrated even though he has a water fountain and frequently drinks. I ordered from Chewy Nature's Logic Beef Bone Broth and Nature's Diet Whole Cream Goat Milk - if anyone has used these, please let me know. Watering down the pate is not an option, Artemis won't touch it. What had worked was Tiki Cat Chicken Broth and watering down Beechnut Turkey and Turkey Broth baby food - the former the vet wanted me to discontinue eventually and the latter I want to keep only for medications. Suzanne & Darcy also suggested/recommended Pura Pro HydraCare which I will look into/most likely get.

Food: Artemis is still on Fancy Feast Classic Pate - vet wanted to keep him on the food until he was stabilized. I'm thinking of eventually switching him over to Weruva Wx Low Phosphorus wet food, hence the need for broths if Artemis takes a liking to it, maybe the transition will be easier. 😓

One of the things I had to do for Artemis to entice him to eat: Breakfast in Bed 🫠

If his phosphorous in bloodwork is over 5 , I would feed the Weruva Phos Focused foods if he will eat them (or add phosphorus binder to his FF pate, which is also an option (aluminum hydroxide.). A high phosphorus level will damage his kidneys so there’s no need to wait on feeding lower phosphorus.

Wasn't able to find in his recent bloodwork on phosphorus levels, only on the day he was diagnosed with diabetes. On 9/17, he had a level of 4.5. I still have some cans left of Weruva Wx, will check if he takes a liking to those (I had been feeding him tiny portions within the pate). I'll check on the phosphorus binders too. Thanks again for the info!

And 4.5 is absolutely perfect for phosphorus so I doubt if it’s a concern — unless something has really changed since then I would not worry about Phosphorus levels. 🤗
