My Ozzy is newly diagnosed - am giving Lantus 3.5U 2x/day. He is doing well - I've done a full curve and periodic checks show me he is maintaining levels in the low 100's during most of the day.
Next week I have an engagement one day and nobody to give his nightly injection. Question is do I give the injection 3 hours late or skip it altogether? I can spend the next day dialing the timing back but it will not be perfectly back to a 12/12 schedule for a few days -
What is the forum's advise - skip the dose or give it late?

It really depends on your individual situation and how tight your schedule usually is. None of us want to skip shots unless absolutely necessary but it isn't the end of the world if you have to do so to stay on a schedule that works for you given your normal schedule and obligations.

If you shoot 3 hours late, you will need to be able to give the following shot no more than 2.5 hours later than normal moving the shot time back by 30 minutes per day either all at one shot each day or by 15 minutes at each of the two shots each day so that no cycle is any shorter than 11.5 hours. This means it will take you several days to get back to your usual schedule.

The other alternative that I have used is to give the shot later than necessary (18 hour cycles) for two consecutive cycles to get back onto a workable schedule.
For example if your normal shot times are 7am & 7pm.....

Shoot 7am as you usually do the day of your event.
Extend the evening cycle out till 1am.
Then skip the morning shot the next day and give the next shot at 7pm the day after your event and you'll be back on your normal 12 hour schedule.
