Lasix dose

Just wondering what dose of Lasix the CHF kitties are taking. Andy is taking a total of 25mg/day (12.5 x 2). I'm thinking that's too much for him. He now gets so constipated I have to bring him to the vet for enemas every two weeks (trying meds for that). He has also been losing weight so I wonder if the dose should be adjusted because of that. Andy once weight 25 pounds. He now weighs 9 pounds! He weighed 14 pounds when diagnosed with CHF in March. Also wondering about why the dose was increased. Started out with 12.5mg/day but that was bumped up after an episode of difficulty breathing after my cat sitter gave Andy NONE of his heart medications for 2 days, so I'm thinking that wasn't related to his dosage. Next increase was because I thought he might be having some difficulty breathing but the vet said it was fine. But bumped the dose again anyway.

I will of course discuss everything with the vet, but I'm just curious to see how much Lasix other CHF kitties are taking.

My CHF kitty, who is not the one with diabetes, takes 3, 12.5 MG tablets of Lasix per day. He weighs 18 lbs. His breathing is still labored, even on the 3 per day. Also takes Enalapril. He is not constipated. He is 13.

Interesting. The constipation thing has actually been brewing for years so perhaps its unrelated to the Lasix.

my little heart guy takes 10mg twice a day and hasn't had a constipation problem since we initially took him in and got him unplugged that first day

Merlyn was on half a 12.5 tab in the morning and one quarter tab in the evening. I had a lot of balancing to do, as he had to have subQs, which are generally contraindicated for CHF kitties..but the lasix dried him out so much that for his kidneys sake I tried various amounts and found that he could handle 50mls at a time. He also had Moderate kidney disease.

He did have constipation issues as well, possibly exacerbated by the dehydrating effects of the lasix but I just put miralax in his food and was pureeing his food with water added at the end.
