? Lasix and Lantus

Does anyone have experience with giving both?

I've read where lasix can decrease the effect of Lantus. The pharmacist said it can actually help the Lantus be more effective.

I started giving lasix about 3 hrs after insulin. His glucose stayed high and slowly climbed over a few days. Then I was giving both at the same time. I noticed the Lantus seemed to be kicking in later. Smokey has gotten more greens and a couple of decreases.

I don't think that 1.4u of Lantus is enough. Yet he goes to low.

How do I know if the lasix is creating false reading and he a actually needs quite a bit more insulin? I wanted to try giving lasix an hour before his insulin shot but DH messed that up this morning.

Yesterday was part bounce and I gave lasix 2 hours after shot. He was in the reds all day as if the Lantus wasn't even given. I wonder if this is actually more accurate in readings indicating the need for more insulin.

I would like to hear what others have noticed.

I used Lasix for my diabetic Mitten and really did not notice any change in how the Lantus worked.

I used lasix with Levemir. Do remember that pain, stress or discomfort will often make the bg go up. Maggie's had HCM, and I did find that her bg numbers varied greatly day to day. I think the ups and downs were related to how she was feeling that day, and not necessarily to the insulin at all. But do ask your vet about using lasix and lantus together if you are worried about it.

Frodo has been on Lasix with his Lantus since Oct of last year. At this time he is on 60mg per day, and I have not noticed any change with his BG's or how his Lantus works. I have asked about interactions with all the meds the cardiologist has prescribed, didn't want to be caught of guard.

Thank you everyone. I did ask the cardiologist at the time. He said it could raise glucose, the pharmacist said it could actually help the Lantus work better. Smokey gets suspension so I think it probably works quicker than pill form. He is only on 4mg twice a day.
