My MoeMoe was newly diagnosed and I am trying to deal with his diagnosis and the cost of Lantus, syringes, food, vet visits, etc.

I asked the vet about purchasing the Lantus from Canada and she was on the fence about the quality if I wanted to purchase it that way.

I don't see that would be a problem. It would be the same right?

As I said I am sooooo new to this I need help. I want to make this as economical as possible. I have 4 other cats in the household and 2 dogs. It seems each takes their turn in issues.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MoeMoe other post
My Moe is a 11 yo male recently diagnosed (about 2 months ago) with diabetes. He was losing weight, his hair was greasy/not smooth, wanting people food all the time, and peeing whereever he wanted. We started by changing his food to DM savory selects wet with a little dry mixed in without insulin but that didn't work. He started Lantus at 1Ux2, now 2Ux2, and will see how the next BGC goes later this week. It has put a lot of stress on me more than anyone in the family. In over 30 yrs having cats in the house this is the first for me. With 4 other cats in the house it has been frustrating. I hope it gets better...

Hi Chris I see you just posted in the Feline Health Board
the Lantus from Canada is perfectly fine. Nothing wrong with the quality ,you can re assure your vet

First off can you tell us about MoMo.
We have what's called our signature it's at the end of everyone's post in gray, I will give you the link below.

I see in your other post you already started Lantus
We order it from Marks Marine
I would suggest getting the 5 solorstar pens. They will last you more than a year.
We still use the syringes and insert them into the gray stopper on the pen and draw the insulin from there, because if you use the pens with the pen needles you can only adjust by full units.
We increase or decrease by 0.25 units

Most of us feed Fancy Feast Classic Pates or Friskie Pates , we like to stay under
10 % carbs. I will give you the link to the food chart.

U-100 syringes can be purchased at Walmart with half unit markings
Let me find the pic of them.

I don't know if you are home testing but I highly suggest starting to.
It's the only way to keep MoMo safe and to see if his BG number in the AM and PM
is a number that is safe to give him the insulin

You can buy the human meter from Walmart
Relion Prime 9 dollars
Test strips for it 17.88 for 100
Lancets 26 or 28 gauge any brand is fine
Cotton rounds to put behind his ears when you poke , then hold it on his ears for about 10-20 seconds to stop the bleeding.

All of this will save you money for vet visits, testing at home

We also have a spreadsheet that we use to enter our cats BG to see how it's
working for him, we can then give you advice on dosing.

I can give you the link for it. If you have trouble setting it up we have 2 wonderful members that can help you with it

Diane - I think it's likely that the OP doesn't know where to post. You may want to provide directions to her on how to post on Health. I'm concerned that she may not know how to find the thread you started.

I can't move a post that's part of a private conversation. Robert may be able to do so or he may be able to contact her directly.
