Lantus vs. ProZinc

Hi all - just was hoping I could get a rundown of the differences between Lantus & ProZinc. I am not able to transition Bob to wet food. I've tried to feed a little dry twice a day (so he eats it all at once) and then let him graze on wet. I think he is bouncing every three days from going too low for him (in the blues). I also worry the whole time at work about him going to low at some point during the day.

There is a cat at my vet's office who eats PurVita dry only and has followed the vet's instructions (they do not test at home). They have gotten him regulated on 5 units of Prozinc twice a day. His fasting BG is in the very low 100's. Poor Bob has been all over the place and I can't seem to find a good plan for him.

Right now, Bob's not feeling well and I'm not sure why (we're looking into it). I'm trying to determine if it would be better to go on back on the prozinc.

I've given Bob a break on testing, so my ss is not up-to-date. I just wonder if I had done what the vet told me in the beginning if I could have avoided all this stress on Bob.

Wbile you keep offering canned, you find it helpful to use some low carb dry foods such as:
- Evo Cat and Kitten (online or pet food stores)
- Young Again 0 carb (online sales only; cats will eat less of it, so keep that in mind when you see the cost)
- Stella & Chewey's freeze dried (adding water makes it wet - might make a good transition food as you could slowly add water to it.

See my signature link Secondary Monitoring Tools. When you can't blood test, or the cat needs a break, it is important to monitor for ketones and urine glucose as well as appetite, thirst, and elimination. Checking weight on a weekly basis is helpful too, as weight stabilization or gain is a sign the diabetes is better controlled.
