I use a SolarStar Pen for Martha. I have been refrigerating it, but then I read the following on the Lantus website, does anyone have any advice?
The opened (in-use) SoloStar should NOT be refrigerated but should be kept at room temperature (below 86°F [30°C]) away from direct heat and light.

Keep it in the fridge. If you use the pen needles like humans do, the changing temperature of in and out of the fridge can cause air to get in the pen and that will cause inaccurate dosing if you use the pen needles.

Larry, you said, << the changing temperature of in and out of the fridge can cause air to get in the pen>>
Could you explain that a little for me? I believe I am having problems with this. It's almovst like I just can't SEE the insulin in the syringe, and when I do, it looks like am empty space in there with the insulin. I can't figure this. :?:

When you use a syringe to get insulin out of the pen you will get a little air in the pen. There is not way to prevent that. It causes no harm as long as yo keep using a syringe.

With the insulin pens, be sure to keep your fingers down on the plunger, making sure it's held down tightly to the bottom of the syringe, as you insert the syringe into the pen. The pressure within the pen can make the plunger move up a bit, getting more air in the pen than you want.

After you withdraw the syringe from the pen, hold the syringe pointed up at the ceiling, give the syringe barrel a couple of hard flicks with your fingers to force the bubbles to the top of the syringe, then slowly twist the plunger to move the air bubble up and out of the syringe until you have your proper dose.
