Lantus Schedule question

I know Lantus requires a 12 hour schedule, but my current work schedule is not allowing consistent timing of the PM shot. Sometimes I can get the PM shot at the 12 hour interval and sometimes not. We are only shooting 0.1u per shot and am trying to break her PM meals into 3 parts, but must do the AM meal bigger due to my schedule.

So, here is my question/thought. Would it be worth a try to only do the AM shot and continue no shot with the small meals in the evening? Even on nights when I cannot test or give the shot, my family can get her the PM small meals. This would give consistency in her shot schedule and not overload the pancreas in the evening. I try to get evening tests when I can to monitor her, but am looking for insight if this is an idea worth trying?

Thanks!

Well, that would vary. One a week like this one there are two days where I cannot even do an evening shot because I am out-of-town. I am a high school basketball coach and my children are involved in the program, so their schedule is identical to mine. My wife's schedule doesn't always work for her to get home at 6 PM, either. Plus, the testing and shots are not her thing and she is really uncomfortable with it. She does do the small meals when I cannot make it home. Now, next week I can get the evening shot, but I'd have to give it 90 minutes early or 90 minutes late. This comes from my practice schedule where I can be home by 6 one week, but the next week the practice time is later.

Thanks!

To say the least, it's not ideal. I know this would be an expense, but at least until basketball season is over, is there a petsitter who could stop by and give a shot? When I've had a commitment or I'm traveling, I have a vet tech who stops by to give Gabby her insulin.
