I buy the Lantus vials, not pens.

When Katie was first diagnosed in May 2012, it cost $145 Including tax (the state of Ohio charges tax because it's for a pet, I don't know if every state does that).

About 3 months ago it jumped up to $168. I guess it went up everywhere, others were complaining about it also. Okay, I can take a once a year increase, I thought.

Now here just a short time later, it was $198 for the vial I bought today. $30 more dollars in just a 3 months! What the heck!

If you buy the pens, you can use the coupon so the cost is $25 per pen and the pens will last a lot longer than one vial. Any particular reason you won't buy the pens? It's more economical for using on a cat than the vial.

Each pen contains 3 ml (300 units). A vial contains 10 ml (1000 units). Per ml (or per unit) the pens are more expensive. The pens are only more economical if you only use 1/2 or so a a vial before you have to discard the vial because the insulin went bad/no longer works.

You use the pen the same fashion as the vial. Insert the syringe into the end of pen to draw out the insulin. Think of it as a mini vial.

The pharmacist may say that you need to get the needles that go with the pen, just say no, you will use the syringes you have for the vial instead.

If you use the lantus solostar savings card, you should be able to buy each pen at $25.00. In addition, it is more economical, cause if you accidentally drop your vial and break or damage it, you have to buy a whole new vial. If you drop a pen and break or damage it, you won't feel as guilty discarding it and using another pen in your pack.

You can order the vial of Lantus through Drs Foster and Smith for $135 with no shipping. My first vial was purchased through WalMart for $170 so when it's time for the refill you can bet I'll order through Fosters and Smith. Ship time is 5 to 9 days. Fosters and Smith will also contact your vet for the Rx to save time. Hope this info helps.

I would otherwise you would be lying. Just document the cat as an underage kid. you are the caretaker like you would be an underage child.

Thanks... BUT I just realized you can't register unless you are at least 18 and there is no where to fill out caretaker/child info.

Just register your cat as an 18 year old - use the cat's first name and your last name - this way it will match the prescription from the vet.
