My cat has developed Ketones and Pancreitus. She was hospitalized and they changed her insulin from Lantus to Can Insulin saying Lantus can not be used when a cat has Pancreitus? In the 10 days in and out of the hospital she has lost 2 kilos because they aren't feeding her enough so I want to take her home And would prefer the Lantus as I am familiar with it. Also is it safe to change from one insulin to another. Suggestions how to do?

She has used Lantus happy for 4 years already. They said she could change back after 4 weeks and being cured of Pancreitus.

Any help is appreciated.

That's crazy. We have had plenty of kitties here using Lantus who have had pancreatitis flairs and kept using Lantus. If a cat is hospitalized for ketones or DKA, a faster acting insulin may be used to try to give more insulin. My Neko was first on Caninsulin. I just stopped using it one day and started on Lantus right away. If there are ketones in the picture, you do want to give as much insulin as safely possible.

Here is a note on Ketones/DKA. You might also want to read this Primer on Pancreatitis. http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/a-primer-on-pancreatitis.83108/
