Lantus Expiration

Good Morning!
What is the expiration on a vial of Lantus? I started giving it to Kai on Oct 25th. Im noticing his numbers are slightly increasing and wondering if the Lantus has expired. On the bottle it says 12/22 but hear it really only last 28 days? Overall Kai is doing great.

Most use a vial for a minimum of 5-6 months as long as it’s stored in the fridge and is clear with no floaters. Some have gone a lot longer. People don’t keep it in the fridge which is why the 28 days is on the bottle. I doubt anything is wrong with your insulin. I’m going to look at your ss. Be right back.

A few things. You are holding the dose a long time. Even with SLGS it’s not held over a week. That being said Lantus is dosed based upon the nadir, how low a dose takes the cat. Typically that is between four and seven hours after injecting. I suggest you do a curve testing every 2 hours for a cycle or every 3 hours for 18 hours. You need to also get at least one more test each cycle. Vary the times. Many cats drop lower at night. Please read the sticky at the top that explains our two dosing methods, TR and SLGS.

Ok thank you and I will do a curve, dont understand what you mean by holding a dose a long time? and held over a week? can you explain more please. Thank you. Im still new to all of this and trying to understand

You have been on 1.0 for a week but with only preshot tests we have no idea for sure. Have you read our dosing methods? your Kai is so young. It would be great if we could get her into remission. No guarantees but her bg is not that high. Keeping at the same amount of insulin too long can lead to glucose toxicity requiring more insulin. She’s staying pretty flat though.
