I tried to use the discount card available on the Lantus website. Walmart wouldn't apply it because the Rx was for a pet, not a human. Just received a call back from the company and was told that Lantus is not approved for non-human use?????

Yes, using Lantus is considered off-label because no one has done the FDA application to make it an approved use.
Nevertheless, it works and there is research documenting that.
Lantus and Levemir are less expensive if you are in the US and order it from Canada, ex Mark's Marine.

My pharmacist was cool about the card...we didn't really "discuss" who it was for so he was able to put it through for me. Sometimes you get lucky that way...so you could always try another pharmacy. Also make sure the birthday makes your kitty 18 years old - and write that date down! When I tried to get a second discount card, I forgot the date I had used for Trix and that sent up all sorts of red flags with the fine folks at Lantus. Fortunately Trix went OTJ right after that and it became a non-issue.
