Lancets

We need to buy more lancets.
We use an alphatrak 2 glucose monitor.
We prick his ear by hand using the lancet.

Can we use human lancets? But a larger gauge.
Will it produce a large enough droplet of blood.
I'm sure they are cheaper than pet versions but
maybe not.

Or should we stick with Alphatrak 2 lancets.

I think we were using a 28 gauge alphatrak.
I think listed online for about $33 before tax for 100.
Not sure how much human lancets might cost.
Been a long time since I bought any.

You could use any lancet. Personally, I use a 28 or 29 gauge syringe because I find I have more control and can see where I’m pricking.

A 26 or 28 gauge lancet will give a larger drop of blood. And yes as @Myrtlesmum said any lancet is fine especially if you are doing it by hand.

any lancet is fine, assuming of course if it's never been used before -- LOL -- you can find gauges from 26 (largest) to 33 (teensy) -- smaller numbers make bigger holes, larger numbers are less painful (but you may have to prick multiple times to get a big enough droplet), much more controllable if you are doing it freehand rather than using a "pen" device" since you want to go in at a 45 degree angle, and those devices are more for going in vertically through thicker human skin

Go to Walmart and get the Relion lancets. I get the 26 gauge, but they have 28, and all sizes. Only $2-$3 for 100 ct. box. Cost you $30 less. Been using them for years.Those alphatrak lancets are ridiculously overpriced.

Seconding the Relion lancets. If you like using the device it's only $5 and the lancets are dirt cheap. I use 25g for the ear that bleeds easy and the 26g for the one that doesn't.

I am using Alphatrak2 too but with Freestyle lancets. They are exactly the same as the AT ones, same manufacturer, just at a much better price (half the price for double the quantity).

we have a rainbow of lancets -- some came with DH's initial testing kits (4 of them, each with a different style, all OneTouch), some came from garage sales, people switching brands or going to insulin pumps, some came from estate sales, some came from other pet-parents who found them surplus, some from the senior center care box, some from a thrift store which gets items donated from the senior-living complex -- if time comes when I don't need them, DH doesn't need them, and cats don't need them, I'll donate to DCIN

I think we have white, gray, beige, pink, orange, blue, green, aqua .. but none my mother's favorite color -- sky blue pink with polka dot stripes
