Hello helpful friends...I'm back. Per advice, I got a Relion lancet device. It came with 10 ultra thin lancets. In my first attempts with Daisy, I started with a shallower depth setting....no blood...(Maybe a little pink mark on her ear.) Even on the deepest setting, it did not give me an adequate amt. to test. Poor Daisy girl... Unfortunately I also bought a box of micro thin - unopened as yet. I'm such a confused woman right now. Using wrong lancets or doing something wrong?! Poor Daisy! She's being very patient with me.

I believe 26-28 gauge are recommended for beginners, the ultras are 30. Also, are you warming the ear at all and are you aiming for the sweet spot? Its a trial and error, and I promise it gets easier. My dad still squirms when he comes to visit and I have to test Hidey, but now its to the point I can do it in my sleep.....as long as I have treats for him lol.

As to the warming, if you are not warming the ear it is best to use a sock filled with rice and microwave it for a few to get it warm not hot to help blood flow, You could also use something like a prescription bottle filled with warm water, or what I used....a wet paper towel warmed in the microwave for a few seconds.

this link has a pick of the sweet spot, plus some tips :)

If you free hand, you can aim for the vein directly when you must.get.blood. It will likely bleed profusely, so snag a drop on a clean fingernail and blot firmly to reduce bruising and scabbing.
