? Lancets for Bravo? and Pookie update!

Hi Everyone,

A few weeks ago I posted a panic story about our foster Pookie and OD'ing him on insulin (story here and here). I'm happy to say that I don't panic anymore and have learned a lot from this site.

Pookie has a young couple interested in adopting him! They'll be joining you soon as forum members.

I'm placing an order with Diabetes Express and I want to buy them everything they need. We're going to go with the Bravo meter and it comes with a lancet device. I can't find anything on what type of lancets it's compatible with. Does anyone here know? I'll order extra lancets through the site as well.

Hi I did a search and found this that another member posted, this is what she said I copied it for you.

Most of us just use the lancets freehand any brand 26 or 28 gauge lancets
I found it much easier just holding the lancet and poking with that. You can see better where you are poking.
Were you using a lancing device on Pookie?

@Diane Tyler's Mom - I'm OK with freehanding. Husband doesn't like it at all. The new owners may prefer to use the device to start.

Lancets are easy to find so I'll buy them once we find out what lancets the device that comes with the Bravo takes.

So excited that Pookie may have found his new home!
 
Hello, I use the lancing device that comes with the Bravo meter and I prefer to use these Bayer Microlet Lancets 28G. They form a really nice fit with the lancing device, and I found the 28 gauge to be pretty okay for starting out. Ideally, I would have started with an even bigger needle (lower gauge like 26G), but I found it impossible to find places in Canada that ships those online and that aren't way too expensive. It is also nice that you can get those Microlet ones from DiabetesExpress as well!

I think the Bravo meter might come with 10 lancets, but I have no idea where you would buy those specific ones. Also they were a larger gauge (if I remember correctly), which isn't good to start out with since it is harder to get a good drop of blood.

If you scroll down on this thread to post #43 then you can see some pics I put up that show the Bravo lancet device and what it looks like.

I have also bought and used https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Easy-Touch-Lancet-30g-Twist-100ct/PRD2G92NL14E5JC in the past (there are a few sellers on Walmart), and if you buy in bulk then it is a better deal than the Microlet ones. However, they don't fit as well and they are 30G so I would only recommend these if you are experienced. I used about 600 of them, but I don't think I would buy them again since the annoyance of them not fitting properly made me not want to test as much. I think these ones don't work as well because they don't have the silicone coating that the Microlet ones do. When I tried the Easy Touch ones in my lancing device that the Nova Max Plus Glucometer came with, they fit a lot better. However, I have much more success getting blood with the Bravo lancing device over the Nova Max Plus one.

@FarmKitty - thanks so much for this. This is perfect! Pookie is doing well on the 28 gauge so when his new owners pick him up they should be OK with it. Your reference to the post with the information in it is the one that I was trying to find again for Pookie's new owners. It's perfect in its detail.
