Lactose?

Hello! I'm doing my first curve today on my 15 year old Willie who was diagnosed about a week ago. His AMPS was 357, then I gave him breakfast, his clavamox for his skin infection, and also 2000 mcg of methyl B12 (2 x 1000). He eats a raw diet... ground turkey with supplements. He gets his insulin right after he eats, which today was just after 8:00am. His numbers shot WAY up after that...

+2 489
+4 418
+6 400

The methyl B12 supplement contained lactose, and I'm wondering if the lactose shot his numbers high. I haven't done curves all week, so it is possible this has been happening all week, but I'm just concerned that he's suddenly over 400 when he hasn't been there all week. I had purchased the methyl B12 to tide me over until I could order some Xobaline, but if it is making his numbers go high, I'll wait until I get the xobaline in the mail.

Any thoughts anyone has on this would be greatly appreciated! Been a stressful day... Willie does NOT like getting his ears pricked, so doing this every two hours has just been breaking my heart a little more each time. *sigh* I keep telling both of us that it's important because we need to know what to do with his medicine, but I suspect it is small comfort for both of us.

Applying a topical anesthetic to the ear may reduce some of the discomfort with testing. You clean it off after testing so the cat doesn't ingest it.

A small low carb treat after testing may reduce resistance.

Lactose is a type of sugar, so you may do well to wait for the xobaline. You also could try splitting the dose up (4 times instead of 2 for example) across the day so it wasn't ingested all at once.

If he currently has an infection, that may be contributing to the glucose levels too.
