KT tore out 3/4ths of toenail - what do I do?

KT was being a goof and tore one of his hind feet's claw about 3/4th way out. Looks like the nail split in half longways pulling out the whole lower half. There's still part of the top of the claw just barely extending out of the hole - that part seems still firmly attached. I got it to stop bleeding but what do I need to do for it? There's a big hole left. LB will be a nasty thing. I put triple antibiotic on it. I'm surprised this is the first time I've had to deal with this....no vet until tomorrow and I'm not sure they'd do anything...???

Poor baby.... :cry:

My Teddi Bear did this same thing. I took her to the vet and they gave her a local anesthetic and removed the claw and she also had to have stitches and an A/B. It healed nicely....they thought the claw would not regrow but it did.
 
I will probably take him in tomorrow but they're not open today. What do I need to do for it today? I'll wash it when he gets out of LB but he'll have the night between washings which probably isn't good. I think I'm talking myself into putting more triple ab salve on it, bandaging it with adhesive tape and non-stick pad...oh he ain't gonna like this.

My Neko has torn a nail a couple of times. First time was a nasty dog in our yard chasing her up a tree. :shock: The vet put a gauze bandage followed by a stretchy neon pink bandage wrapped around that. That kept the foot clean for LB use. Both times her nail grew back.
 
Oh no, Poor KT! I would bandage it up like you're thinking about until you can get him to a vet. Poor guy... sending healing vines! Another idea--- do you have any styptic powder? My clippers came with some that you can dip their nails in if you cut them to the quick. That might offer him some relief, if it's bothering him. They also sell it by the jar at pet stores.
 
bcatrun_gif Oh KT :o that stinks! Ruben did that once, he got a nail stuck in a screen window going after a bug. Blood everywhere, Convinced he was gonna die... :shock: the vet cleaned and bandaged it, gave me some blue wash to clean it with. Healed fine. Sending healing vines to KT and cheap vet visit no stress vines to bean. Kt is gonna have to take it easier on the yard dances now. :-D
