I just got home from work and DH tells me that Klinger just lost a tooth.
When DH got home Klinger was playing, eating, etc. and a while later he see's Klinger with blood on his chin. He looked on the floor and there was a tooth. I've left a message with the vet. Has this happened to anyone else? DH's a little freaked out! I have bup on hand from his p-titis flare - I could give him a little in case he's in pain...

Wow, Marcy what a shock! Poor Klinger. I've only heard of cats losing teeth but never experienced it firsthand. I'd give the bupe if it were one of my kitties. And call the vet in the morning. It's a kitty conspiracy, they always do these things (or we discover them) after hours...

Does it look like it broke or fell out? When they fall out they have bloody flesh attached.

I had this happen with my Leanne. She was playing and I think tried to eat a leaf or something (she was on the balcony) then suddenly started pawing at her mouth and spit out a bloody bit of something that turned out to be a tooth. It was a back tooth, or part of one. She has that thing with resorptive lesions (Feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions (FORLs)) that seems to be hereditary and basically untreatable except to have them extracted as they get bad. I hope Klinger doesn't have that and just had one bad tooth or something.

When it happened to Leanne, I can't remember if I called the vet and took her in right away (I think it was a Sat afternoon, but it might have been a Sunday), or I called and they said to bring her in for scheduled dental the next day that they were open. She had to have another 3 teeth extracted, one of which just sort of fell out with the cleaning. She had just turned two. And she needs another dental soon to remove another one that the vet said looks like it is about ready.

A little pain med would be good, I think.

Sorry I wasn't able to post yesyerday. We're experiencing internet issues again.
I brought Klinger to the vet and she tried to get a look at his mouth, but he didn't cooperate. She was able to see the area that he lost the tooth and that looked fine - no signs of infection. She wants us to schedule an appt with the other vet that does dentals so he can be sedated and then they can get a better look at what's going on. I'm waiting to hear when the appt will be.

On the plus side, I was able to get a new rx for lev from her - she's not the vet that rx it last year. And Klinger's had a few nice numbers lately.

Sheila, thanks for sharing your experience with Leanne. I'll make sure to ask the dentist if he has FORLs.
