I tested Kitty +2 to see what the BG was doing--up from 511 to 566. Then I tested at +3 hoping the +2 was a food spike--got a Hi reading. I called my regular vet who said give 1 unit of PZI to bring the number down--she thinks the insulin didn't get absorbed. I know the shot went in, but she thinks it was too much in the skin.

I decided against that option and took her to the emergency vet to let them administer insulin and watch her. This might have been an overreaction--but, I'd rather be safe than sorry. I did test for Ketones right before going and they were negative. I didn't want to put Kitty in jeopardy of no insulin for a long period. With the spike today--and climbing numbers tonight, I thought it was best take her in.

The emergency vet said I could expect these big swings I am seeing as a result of the DKA. She said it would probably take 3 weeks to get her back into a normal range.

She also thinks the shot probably did not get absorbed tonight--but, will check her to be sure.

Hopefully the spike is a "bad" shot.

Hoping it was a fur shot, and the ER can get her back into good numbers. I don't think you were over reacting at all. Kitty was in DKA just a few days ago - you don't want to take chances.

I think it was a good call. You've got to follow your gut sometimes and that's what you did. It certainly wasn't the wrong thing to do by any stretch of the imagination!
