I am starting to get real nerveous about Kitty. She is still in the hopital and her BG is running high with short curves. The vet is going to recheck for the Ketones this afternoon--to be sure they are truly gone. She is on Zenequin for the UTI. She is still eating well and active, but I just hope her BG will begin to show sign of coming down--it was over 500 (Hi) this morning. The vet gave 3 units of PZI. Yesterday, she received 2.5 units am and 2.5 units at pm.

I know everyone keeps saying infection will make the BG go high, and I know it has only been since Sunday since she went into the hospital--But, I am getting really anxious.

I am sure this is distressing. It is true that a UTI can raise bg levels and the stress of being at the hospital.. What is their plan for getting the numbers down? Are they considering letting you bring her home to treat the UTI and give insulin?

She is still receiving some iv fluids--so bringing her home right now has not been discussed. The only "real" plan for getting the numbers down is increasing insulin.

The vet said that we need to be sure the infection is gone, before concentrating specifically on the BG values.

Very distressing!

This is such a balancing act for you. You probably want her to come home so you can care for her out of that stressful situation. And you have to balance that with the idea that they have insulins and medicines that you don't have at home.

No brillliant ideas. Just remember to breathe and call them often to see what is happening so you don't feel so out of the loop.

Sorry to hear about the complications. Sending you both the best.
Remember to take care of you too. Stress can take a toll on you. (I know it’s easier said than done.)
(((((((((((hugs))))))))))))

I wish I had something to offer that's a little more tangible than comfort and prayers for Kitty, but they are sincere. C'mon little one - fight.

And big hugs for the mama bean :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Hugs and prayers for you and Kitty. Such a stressful time. Hoping that, once the infection is under control, Kitty's #'s get better.
