Spanky and I have been doing ok since our hypo scare a few days ago. I noticed last night Spanky dragging his butt-butt on the carpet (I know, a lovely site, but we have all seen this) . I went to inspect the litter box and there were 2 loose poops. Today he has had 2 loose poops. I had to clean his butt-butt and there was some bright red blood with mucus on the toilet paper. I'm sure this is from changing his diet quickly. I changed it from all dry to all wet on Monday. Spanky has also slept all day today. Any tips how to settle his tummy?

sounds to me like you are right about the quick food switch being the culprit.

can't help with the tummy settling question, but i can bump your post up the line for better eyes...

I would keep an eye on him and make sure he didn't eat anything he shouldn't have.

A lot of us use probiotics when poo problems occur. FortiFlora is one probiotic that's formulated for cats. I linked to the product on Amazon but you can also find it at PetFood Direct and EntirelyPets. When my cat was going through a bad bout of diarrhea, I used ReNew Ultimate (about 1/3 of a capsule twice a day) and I found this in the refrigerated supplement section at Whole Foods. Others have used products like Culturelle.

Hi Sienne-

Someone once recommended a CVS probiotic and I bought it. It's in a capsule form. I'm now afraid to use it for fear of causing the food to taste bad and then have another issue of them not eating. I would have bought FortiFlora if I had known I could get it on Amazon-but now I'm stuck with this stuff. Should I go ahead and try using it? Do your cats eat their food with no issues with the non-Forti Flora stuff on it?

Open a capsule on a plain dish, add a dollop of food and mix well. See if the cat will eat it without mixing up a huge batch.

Another cause of scooting behavior is anal glands which have become partly or completely blocked.

Next time you're at the vet, maybe check on it. They can become infected and burst. (and boy does that discharge stink!!!!)
