So our kitty RayRay was diagnosed with diabetes right at 2 years ago. We were first feeding her prescription Hills M/D dry and after much reading changed her over to canned Friskies pate. In that two years her numbers went from 400+ down to 75-200. Then all of a sudden she started throwing up the canned food. I thought maybe her stomach was just upset from something so went back to they dry until it settled. I've tried 4 different times in the past month to feed her the canned again and each time she throws it up. Since she's not able to keep the canned food down I've gone back to the prescription Hills M/D but her numbers are back up to 300-400. Not sure what to do if she can't keep the canned down? Not sure why she did so well on it for 2 years and then suddenly can't keep it down? Anyone have any similar experience or suggestions of what I should try feeding her? Obviously the dry Hills M/D isn't working for her diabetes. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Could it be maybe they changed the formulas of what you feed? What are you feeding? Catinfo.org has some wonderful info on all different types of food. There's even a chart that shows you carbs, fat, protein. With diabetes you want to stay under 10 carbs.

All I can suggest is trying a different brand of canned. Can you alternatively give RayRay some baked or boiled chicken breast. I give Idjit homemade chicken broth, and you could get some hindquarters/breast, cook slowly in the crockpot or stove top with plenty of water. (I use an electric pressure cooker to cook the chicken, I save all the unseasoned bones and cook those too.)
Cut up the meat and use it for treats as well as adding to meals, freeze it in small packages and thaw as needed. The broth should be cooled, the top layer of fat removed and can be frozen in ice cube trays. I thaw the cubes in the fridge and toss some in when I warm Idjit's meals in the microwave. Extra flavor and nutrition. Maybe the chicken broth would settle the tummy and provide more moisture. The Hills MD is not a good diet for cats.
There is Fancy Feast classics, Weruva and Tiki Cat that I know of, others will chime in on their preferred diets. Alternatives for dry are Dr. Elsey's and Young Again Zero.
