Hello, I came home today to 7 piles of puke from my kitty...all undigested food. I called the vet right away and she thinks her pancreas is probably inflamed from trying to figure out if her body wants to be diabetic or not. Her numbers are in the low 100's some days but mid 300's other days. I'm worried because I had a cat a few years ago who died from pancreatitis. I only give 1 unit of insulin if she's over 300 because of how her numbers change. The vet showed me what to watch for and said to call her tomorrow with an update.

Has this happened to anybody else's kitty?

Squeaker had pancreatitis about every 3 months.

You might find this link very helpful: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/a-primer-on-pancreatitis.83108/

One thing you can do right now to help is to start giving 1/4 of a 10 mg famotidine (Plain Pepcid brand name) before bedtime. Read the above link as your cat probably needs anti-nausea meds too. One thing I found that helped Squeaker a lot during flares were B12 injections.

If you get to the vets you might be able to get Cerenia for Chopper. It helps with both nausea and vomiting. Your vet may be able to run an in-house SNAP fPL test to give a yes/no result on whether or not pancreatitis is the problem. The vet can also send out a blood sample to get a Spec fPL test done to determine severity of inflammation if the SNAP test is positive.

These links are very helpful for pancreatitis kitties (Saoirse has chronic pancreatitis):

I second the recommendation for the course of B12 injections. I hope Chopper feels better very soon. :bighug:

Thank you for posting this little nugget of information. I've been having difficulty managing Saoirse's blood glucose levels of late and the above gave me a lead to follow. Saoirse has chronic pancreatitis alongside the diabetes. She did achieve remission on Lantus but fell out of it a few months back. Since then she has had a really rough time (lost one of her eyes recently :) ) and her numbers were consequently all over the shop. I know from her test data that Saoirse's pancreas still produces some insulin and your post gave me a lead to follow. I've adjusted her dose since reading your post. Both her numbers and, much more importantly, her clinical signs have shown improvement in the last 24 hours or so. Again, thank you. :)

how much do those tests run?

I've no idea how much they cost in the UK because I always get the Spec fPL done as part of a larger range of tests. Perhaps if you post a question on Feline Health US members might be able to give you a guide to charges stateside.
