Update on Kitty---Ketones are gone, infection is "probably" still present--but blood is no longer in urine. The vet has changed the antibiotic to Zeniquin to treat the infection.

She is taking 2.5 units of PZI TWICE(yest I said twice!) a day--but her BG is still running high and her curve is very short. She is starting her curve at about 485 and only dropping for about 6 hours with a low of 300. This is so unlike anything I have seen--but, the vet thinks it is a result of the infection.

Being new to this, I am scared she is becoming somewhat resistant to the insulin. Do you think once the infection is better controlled her BG will come down?

Tonight is the first night I did not transport her back to the Emergency Vet for treatment throughout the night. The vet thinks she is stable enough to stay at the regular vet hospital.

Thoughts please?

Thanks!

Kim

Infections do impact cat's bg levels in different ways. The other thing that may help account for high numbers at the vet is stress. There are all kinds of strange smells, noises and lots of people who are NOT the mommy.

Glad they are giving the insulin twice a day.

Hope you get her home soon so you can give the special care only you can give.

Good news that the ketones are gone...big yeah! Paws crossed that once the infection is tamped down and you get Kitty home her numbers will get better.

So glad to hear things are going better! I am sure you and Kitty will feel much better once shes’ home. Sending prayers for that!

That's awesome that the ketones are gone, yay! It's hard to make sense of the #s, especially with being at the vet. Certainly both infection and stress can cause raised BGs, and any kind of pain/discomfort too, if the infection is causing that. Hopefully the #s will improve, but ketones being gone is huge - as I understand it ketones are caused by lack of insulin rather than by high #s per se, so at least the top priority is already fixed.... hopefully better numbers will follow soon.
