Good Morning!

I just got Kitty's morning report---not really sure what the attending student said as she seemed to ramble. But, here is the recap--- Today, they are concerned about her diabetes! They say she is running extremely high and they are supplementing her with R insulin. They actually think that she is becoming somewhat insulin restistant---last week they told me not to worry about the diabetes! I asked how much insulin they were giving her, how often and what they were feeding her. They were giving her 3 units bid, now they have increased in to 4 units bid. I explained to them that unless they dose her tid, they will not control her BG with Prozinc. Why am I not really worried about this? I might be wrong, but this is not a BIG concern to me. Maybe it should be, but I just can't imagine she has become insulin resistant as a result of the Ptitis in three days. I couldn't even shoot earlier in the week on her tid schedule, because she was below 100. They are doing a curve today!

Her kidney values are continuing to improve and her heart is not showing any evidence of stress while receiving the fluids-- this is good news. Her Ptitis is severe and could take some time to reverse. They said they are optimistic that she can pull out of all of this, but that it is still touch and go. I expressed concern over her not surviving and they said they still had things they could add if necessary--- I didn't ask what. She still is eating very little and they said she was sleeping more today than the previous days. I know I am trying to find a positive explanation for everything, but I assume she is tired and more comfortable with her surroundings--- thus sleeping more....but, who knows.

I did not go see her yesterday, but I think I will go today so I can draw my own conclussion on her physical condition.

The not eating bothers me as much as anything we are dealing with.

Chewy is Good. I am getting ready to check his BG, but I am expecting a Green Number!

Please continue to keep my Girl in your thoughts and prayers. AND, send some Eating Vibes!

Wishing Everyone a Great Easter Friday......

Sweet KittyGirl - please eat for MamaBean, you need those vitamins and food!

BIG BIG HUG Kim, lots of thoughts and prayers still happenin' here for all of you.

You & Kitty are always in my thoughts, even when I'm not here. I have been checking on you when I'm at work but we are still busy so I haven't had the time to post.

I'm sure that once they get the pancreatitis under control she will go back to eating normally again. Her poor tummy is upset.

As far as those freeloading friends, just ignore them. You know I got the same thing last summer when Thumper was so sick but here we are months later & while she might not be a spring chicken she gets along fine. I bet if people knew that I was taking her 45 mins away in terrible traffic at least once a week to get an Adequan shot & laser therapy they would start the same thing again. And, I'm going to look for a place that does Accupuncture. ohmygod_smile

Dear Kitty, you are on my mind all the time. I say a pray for you at night that you will become strong again. You need to eat sweet girl. It will help you heal faster. I know you don't feel well & you just want to be home with your friends. The people are trying to help you feel better so help them out some & eat your food.

Get well soon!

Kim, all my wishes for better health and improved appetite are with you and Kitty. Don't know if this will help or merely sound preachy, but I have found that conversations can get garbled even to the point of ending up totally transformed. You may wish to write a note stating what you've been doing with Kitty. I always asked for the note to be included in the chart. In order for 'them' not to get offended, I covered myself by thanking the docs, nurses and all staff. I placed the responsibility for any lack of clarity on myself. Take care.

Sending prayers and violet flame reiki to sweet Kitty.
Dear Cool Kitty, please eat for the nice people who are trying to help you get better and for mama Kim.

I just got back from visiting Cool Kitty. She had a BIG sign on her cage..."Careful, She Will Bite!"

I had almost decided not to go tonight, but the vet called at 7 pm and said her breathing seemed a little faster and they had given her a dose of lasix. The vet was not sure if the increase in breathing was the fluid and heart combination or her "being tired" of the hospital and vet techs. She said that if the increased breathing rate continued, that they would do chest Xrays to see if fluid was building up. After her call, I decided I needed to visit and make my own assessment. When I arrived, the techs said that her breathing had calmed down and she had been in a good range.

They let me take Kitty into a room with a couch and chair and visit. Kitty immediately jumped from the floor onto the couch and assumed her position. She had bandages etc on three legs, so walking was very difficult. There was a piece of dry cat food on the couch and she ate it! She did not eat well this morning, but they started an appetite stimulant today and she did eat better tonight. The vet mentioned an E tube as an option if she continued not to eat well.....I told her I would have to think long and hard before making that decision. I emphasised to the vet the importance of quality of life to me. Kitty did not appear in any pain and seemed glad to see me.

The vet said the 4 units had been much better than the 3 units they had been giving bid. You think?! I told her once again that they needed to dose her 3 units tid....she said she nadired nicely on the 4 units. I asked her was she ready for the bounce!

She looked really skinny...she needs to EAT!

Hopefully the breathing was nothing serious tonight and she will not need to start back on the lasix. The kidneys and Pancreas need the heart to cooperate with the fluid therapy.

Thanks to everyone for all of the positive thoughts and prayers. I love Kitty and it is very hard to see her in such a weakened state. It really seems to have happened so fast-- in just a matter of weeks. Thanks again and I will keep you updated.

I'm glad you went to see her and I KNOW she was sooo happy to see her mama!!

Hopefully her breathing will settle back to normal and she will start to eat.

Praying -

Sounds like a good visit.

The more I think about the dry kibble she found, the more inclined I would be to open up a box - just to get her to eat. Surely there's gotta be SOME kind of dry that isn't 30% carbs...

I'm so glad to hear Miss Kitty is still doing well. I wish the vets would listen to you about her insulin. Why do they change something that works because they think they know better? :YMHUG: to you all :YMHUG:
