Good Morning!

Things went good last night. Kitty had no heart issues or respiratory distress while receiving her fluids. The vet said she was a little more alert this morning and was actually playing with the IV line. The Vet techs have fallen in love with her, understandably, and are giving her a lot of attention. They said they are watching her very closely for any changes in her heart and have her on multiple different diagnostic devices. She did eat a little but, not a lot. Her BG was 322 this morning, so they were able to administer insulin.

They will repeat the blood work and chest Xrays at 1 pm today-- hopefully, there will be some improvement in the kidney and pancreatic values. Her pancreas is very inflamed--but, hopefully the supportive care will also help reduce the inflamation. The Vet said that while Kitty has Chronic Ptitis-- the actual attack we are dealing with now is an Acute attack. I have no idea how they can tell the difference.

It is still very touch and go---BUT, at least for the moment her Heart seems to be cooperating! I have always known that she had a VERY special Heart!

Chewy is Great--he is missing Cool Kitty and all the extra food she was leaving in her bowl!

Thanks so much to everyone for the support and encouraging words. All of my soon to be Ex-friends here  ---- keep telling me...you need to put her to sleep...how much is it costing...just let her die.....SO, it seems good to have a group of crazy internet Cat people that understand my love for Kitty and my desire to help her!

Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Wishing Everyone a Great Day.....

Kim

Oh, Kim -

Glad to hear she's well enough to play with the IV line and that her fan club is growing. :-D

And, I'm so sorry for the lack of support you're getting from your friends. I don't think people mean to be callous, they just don't always get it.

About the cost - I told my tax guy that we should at least be able to claim our furry friends on our taxes!

Take care -

Libby (and Hershey, too!)

I'm sure Chewy & the rest of the gang will be thrilled to have her back home when she's doing better... in the meantime... no EXTRA food. Sorry big guy! (like he's really deprived or something!)

It's funny how in a situation such as this, you sometimes see another side of people that you're not so pleased with. Just try to understand that not everyone's lives revolve around their furry friends as much as most of us here. I can't wrap my head around why people wouldn't do everything they possibly can (within their means) to care for their pet... but then again... there's a LOT of things other people value that I wouldn't spend a nickel on, so I guess that's just showing we all have different priorities. You're very fortunate to be able to do what you've done, and Kitty's very fortunate that you love her enough to do all you can. And several of us here are very lucky to have such resources close enough that this level of treatment is possible in the first place.

We all see your love for Kitty through your posts. And I, for one, support the choices you've made for her care. Everyone's babies should be so lucky!

I can't wait to see the look on my friends faces, when I tell them that the funds to treat Kitty will come from the revenue generated when I start RENTING the beach house, instead of letting people use it for FREE! Then if that doesn't generate enough income, that I will cancel the Yearly Christmas Bash I normally host.

Yes! It is pet friendly and I am looking some NEW friends! When do you want to go?!

So glad to hear kitty is doing better. I thought about you two all night. Glad she is playing and getting extra attn from the vet tech's. WOuld love to meet kitty. SHe sounds like a wonderful soul and good friend. Sorry you don't get support from your other friends. Non-animal lovers just don't get it. I guess that think they are helping you in some way, but i know all too well how it grieves your soul!!! Just don't include them in the opinion and tell them you rather not talk to them about it. It is easier that way. We will all support you 200%+! Some people just are not connected to animals and just don't get it. Not worth your time.

I will keep praying for you and kitty!

I'd better stop saying "beach house" out loud...Doug loves the beach and is starting to salivate!

Kim,
I've been MIA lately, but wanted to log on today and check everyone. Your post is the most recent.
Sounds like Kitty has been having a time at it. Hope she continues to improve.

If I've heard it once, I've heard it 50 times in the last year that I should just put the poor cat to sleep (regarding Alex).
While Alex's blood sugar does continue to run high, he is not ready to go to the rainbow bridge. We do what we can do for our beloved pets.

I'm proud of you, crazy internet lady!!!!!!

Hello Kim, glad Cool Kitty had a better night! All my best to her and you. Gosh, never understood why friends (or others) can't stay out of other people's loves or pocketbooks. I think that
I'm proud of you, crazy internet lady!!!!!!

said it best.

I hate this FD dance because I'm a much better fighter than dancer. Several days ago I declared war on Pudge's pancreas. No more dancing, it's an extended war!!!

Prayers and best wishes from another crazy internet lady!!!

Hey Kim,

Pay those soon to be ex-pals no mind. As soon as Jax was dx with FD a family member told me...."What are you waiting for? Put him to sleep." stated so matter of fact that you would think she was commenting on the weather. It was mindboggling BUT she is not an animal lover. If you don't have a heart for animals it's best to shut up around someone that does.

I found out very quickly that people who aren't dealing with FD just don't understand it. I mostly never talked about it with family or friends because they were either indifferent or thought I was crazy. I found plenty of people who "got it" here instead.

Some people just don't understand the link we have with our cats, or with any other animals. That was really evident to me during the years we did wildlife rehab. This morning, I removed a dead opossum from the highway and it made me really sad for him. But I can't handle just leaving an animal "out there". Most people are like "what? It's a 'possum, who cares?". But then most people have never tube fed a pinky opossum and had it survive to adulthood, then held it like it was any other pet and let it lick their face either!
I've found that people either get it, or they don't. Those who don't, the most we will ever get out of them is a degree of respect for all that we do. But like Lu said, things other people are really into, I wouldn't give a nickel for either.
Just glad we all "get it"!

Carl

The vet just called with the afternoon update on Kitty.

She is holding her own. The blood work came back improved-- in fact the high kidney values dropped back to where they were on Sunday-- CRT 2.9 and BUN 82. Her Phosphorus also came down from 14 to 11-- still too high. They are starting the Odansetron and Omeprazole tonight and phosphorus binders. They said she was "picking" at her food-- I told them I was all to familiar with it! Her heart is holding up! There has been no signs of distress.

So, the synopsis is her heart is cooperating and the fluids appear to be helping. I really hope she starts feeling well enough to eat...I hate watching her reject food.

They will call again tonight with another update. It is still touch and go, please continue to keep Kitty in your thoughts and prayers.

No fret over the soon to be ex-pals! They don't get it and I don't get them!

I pay the folks that "don’t get it" no mind. It’s just no use explaining, but we know if it were their kid, it would be a whole different story.
We respect and applaud all you do for your fur family Kim, you are awesome!
Prayers and hugs still comin’ your way!
:YMHUG:

Holding a good thought for Kitty -a strong heart is a good thing!
There are friends I have who never hear about my vet trips, don't know that Roxie had to have a lump removed or that Robbie's last tests and the insulin when added to the surgery bill for Roxie and the pre-surgery visit we had with her amounts to more than our monthly mortgage payment, or that I haven't paid the vet a cent yet so we COULD pay the mortgage. They never hear this and little by little they begin to know less and less about me and my life and therefore become less close. Some day these friends, who have been through so much with me and I know care deeply about me, will wonder "why aren't I as close to Ellen as I used to be?" and they won't know that it was because I just didn't want to hear their judgmental tones when I told them about the issues with the cats, the money or the stress of it all. Sad for them. They don't understand and I shouldn't have to explain.

Glad to hear the update on Kitty and thats she holding her own.
Just ignore people that make insensitive comments like that. Some people don't get it; our fur kids are part of our family just like people are. Would they suggest putting your parent or child to sleep? GRRR
I don't have a lot of funds and went through some very hard times when the bottom fell out of everything in 2008, but never would I give up on my babies when they still have fight and will to live. I would find a way and I would always go without to help them. If it came to a choice if I eat or they do, I would always pick them.
Some people just don't love animals and think of them as a "thing".
They are souls just like we are and are not disposable.

Kim,

I"m so glad to hear Kitty is holding her own and improving. Every improvement is so encouraging!! this is very happy news.

Forget my family. They don't even know how many cats I have (8). But I have even had some of my cat-loving friends tell me that if Sid were their cat, they would have PTS. You have to follow your heart and not worry about what anyone else thinks. (((((Kim)))) sending you lots of hugs and vines for Kitty to heal. Give Miss Kitty lots of gentle scritches and kitty kisses from me and Sid.

Been thinking about both of you. Do you have any updated news for us?

It sounds like every day Kitty is slowly improving which is great news.

Its strange how you can find out who are true friends during trying times in life. True friends understand your passion & love for certain things whether it be a object, hobby or animals. They don't have to love the same things, but just kind of get it. They don't have to make hurtful comments about how you should give up on what you love. Good for you on charging for your beach house. You can now print up comment cards to put on the night stand in the bedrooms, along with a bible. ;-)
