Quick update from the Alley-- Kitty has an appointment and we need to head out soon. She seemed a little better this morning. She actually got off of the table and got in the bed this morning-- she was staring me in the face to wake up. She seemed to want to eat, she even came to her bowl-- but she still ate very little. I am not sure that it is nausea-- she makes all kinds of funny faces after and while eating--like a bad tooth or something. But, I doubt it is that simple.

I got the Odansetron last night, but I did not start it. I knew one dose is all I would get in before seeing the internalist-- so, I decided to wait and discuss everything with her first.

Her BG was Hi last night--not surprised--high carb treats and I only shot 1.5 units yesterday as I didn't know what she would eat. I shot 3 units last night--checked her at +10 this morning and she was 267. I elected to wait 2 more hours to see where she went and I really don't mind higher numbers, since it allows me to shoot more insulin. Due to being DKA, I don't like to shoot too little. In 2 more hours, she was 501!!! Somethings NEVER change! This did allow me to shoot 3 units-- so, no problem.

Chewy is GOOD!

We are off to the vet! Wish us luck and send some good EATING VIBES! Send Sid some too!

Wishing everyone a Great Day.....

Kim

Good luck with Miss Kitty today. I love the image of her staring you in the face
Sid does the same exact thing with his mouth and acts like it hurts or something. I had the vet give it a good look over but he found nothing. If you learn anything at the specialist ill be interested to know what might cause that.

Sending you guys all the best Kim. Hope you get some good answers today.
Hugs and healing sent your way!!!!

I am still at the vet--They are running additional tests. I know that I need to know what is going on, but this is nerve racking.

I've waited in many people waiting rooms, so I know what you mean about nerve racking (and wrecking, too!). At least they're trying to be thorough, which is good.

With you in spirit -

Libby (and Hershey, too!)

First results-- kidneys are worse from Saturdays blood work. CRT is back to 3.5 bun is 90 and phosphorus is 14. The pancreas numbers are also worse. They said this will be hard to treat due to the heart. They are preparing to do an ultrasound now. I will wait for results and see where to go from here.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Oh gosh, I'm praying bunches for you and Kitty. This is such a tough situation - balancing her heart and kidney needs versus what she needs to get well from the pancreatitis. grr_red

Hang in there Kim! :YMHUG:

Just have a few minutes to check in between grandsons, Kim. I am so sorry to hear you and Miss Kitty are having tough times. I hope the knowledge that you are one of the best moms ever and that you have always done the best you can for your Kitty will help in these tough times. I sure hope the vets can find a treatment plan that will work for her. Fingers and paws crossed here and lots of good thoughts coming your way.

The vet hospital just called with a quick update on Kitty. The actual attending Vet was tied up in an emergency, so one of the vet students called. The ultrasound did confirm Pancreatitis-- "real angry pancreas". There was no mention of the increasing kidney numbers, but I am assuming that the lasix for the heart treatment has dehydrated her extremely and has pushed her kidneys too hard. They have admitted Kitty back into ICU and will start conservative slow fluid therapy.

The BIG concern all along has been if her heart could/can handle the fluids necessary to treat the Ptitis and Kidneys-- as she was in heart failure last week. I asked the vet to explain the difference to me in heart failure and heart disease-- heart failure is when the fluids actually back up in the lungs and pulmonary organs. It is referred to as Pulmonary edema. So, the objective with Kitty's heart treatment has been to clear up the edema. So, the little bit of good news that the student told me was that Kitty's pulmonary edema had cleared and her chest Xrays looked pretty good. That being said, her heart is bad and it cannot be stressed, as it has proven it cannot handle agressive fluid therapy. The student said that since her chest Xrays looked better that they would be changing some of her heart meds.

The attending vet is to call around 9 tonight to give me more details. There is NO good news, but at least her heart responded to the meds and the fluids have cleared her chest-- for now. This allows them to attempt the fluid therapy.

Kitty is in a very uphill battle. I have prayed for the strength to make good decisions and to put emphasis on her quality of life.

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

Kim,

so good to hear an update. Been so worried about kitty and you. Hate she is in ICU again, but maybe they will be able to control her pain and get her back on track. How is her spirits? Is she still fighting?? I will definetly be praying and praying throughout the night for you and kitty. I know you are doing everything you can for her life. Wish i could give you a hug :YMHUG:

Kim - I'm so sorry. Sure was hoping for better news, but at least now they are aware of everything going on with her and can take the best approach to get her some relief.

Praying for you -

Continuing to keep you and Cool Kitty in my thoughts and prayers.
Sending strength and healing vines and everything else I can think of!
{hugs}

Kim, When you talk to the attending tonite, ask about whether or not a fresh frozen plasma transfusion would be beneficial to treat the pancreatitis. Harley had one last year after I tried conventional therapies (fluids, pred. bupe, Anzemet, pepcid, etc.) for a month to no avail. It helped him turn a corner and get on the road to recovery. It's worth a shot if they are willing to try. They'd have to type Kitty's blood. Most cats are Type A but some are Type B. Type A plasma they'd most likely have in stock,Type B they might have to obtain elsewhere.

Still praying hard for you guys. We are with you all the way.

Oh Kim, I was hoping for better for Kitty. You will continue to make the right decisions on her behalf.

Continuing to send healing Reiki and prayers to you both.

I also was hoping for better news. She knows you are doing the best you can for her. Let me know if you need anything. You & Kitty are in my thoughts & prayers. :YMHUG:

The vet just called......Kitty is receiving the fluids and is doing well. She ATE for them and even ATE her pills in her food. She actuallly ate a little for me while I was there today, also. Maybe if she survives, we could just go there for meals....like going out to dinner!

The ultrasound did not reveal any masses etc... just some cysts on her kidneys, the vet said this was not abnormal in older cats. She also had some swollen lymph nodes around the pancreas, but the vet felt certain that was related to the Ptitis. Her heart is enlarged, but she is out of heart failure-- she could go back into it at anytime, but for now she is out of heart failure.

She will get the fluids throughout the night and then tomorrow they will repeat the blood work and chest Xrays, to see if there are any negative or positive impacts.

Yes, I was hoping for better news also. But, I am trying to be postitive.....At least the heart is allowing them to attempt to treat the Ptitis and Kidneys with fluid therapy. The news could have been worse-- she could have still been in heart failure, which would have limited their attempt to help her. I went today expecting a Ptitis dx, I just was shocked that the kidneys were worse. The kidney values could be elevated due to dehydration from the lasix, so maybe they will improve tomorrow.

The Vet said Kitty had already made friends with one of the Techs. She hasn't lost her charm!

I know this is a very delicate situation and that it can turn bad fast, but for now she seems to be tolerating the treatments.

Please continue to keep her in your prayers. Thanks.

Kim -

I'm sure Kitty knows how TRULY AMAZING you are - to go to the ends of the earth to help her feel better! Hoping the treatment goes well tonight and that her heart stays strong throughout. All she needs is a few really good days of treatment to get over this hump... you said it earlier... she's at the best possible place for help. Stay strong - and know that all of us are right here for you!

Prayers for Kitty; hugs to you; pats & kisses for all the other critters at Diabetic Alley in Kittyville!

I see a lot of "good" in those couple of sentences. Especially the evidence that you are able to express some of your sense of humor, which was missing a few posts earlier. Kim, Kitty couldn't have a better Mom. When I grow up and become a sugarcat in my next life, please adopt or foster me.

Heading to bed, and I'll say an extra prayer for you, and two for Kitty.

Hugs,
Carl

Prayers and reiki still continuing for cool Kitty.
Please know you and Kitty are always in my thoughts.
I hope Kitty will feel better from the fluids and her kidney values will improve.
