Good Morning!

Kitty and I are going to the internalist this morning for a re-check. The cardiologist could not see her for two weeks, and both the internalist and I felt she needed to have her blood work repeated before then. The mulitple heart meds that Kitty is on are not really good for her kidneys, so hopefully the blood work will reveal that they are holding up okay. She is getting back to some of her old habits-- getting off of the bed and walking around some, waking me up wanting to eat, and wanting to go outside some. She is starting to fight me a lot when I am giving the meds. Yesterday, I had more bupe on me than she had in her mouth and this morning her "horse" capsule was almost impossible to get in her. I actually think that the acute bout of pancreatitis is improving. But, the chronic heart and kidney problems will not reverse. I am trying to take it one day at a time and enjoy the time we have together. It is human nature to always want more--- a week ago I would have given anything to see her eat and sit in the windows---now that she is doing that.....I want her to gain weight and improve! I am back to dosing tid-- this morning amps was 255-- I shot 2.8.

Chewy is Great! He was 78 this morning!

Please send good vibes for the best possible results for Kitty at the vet today. Thanks to everyone for your continued support.

Wishing Everyone a Great Day from the Alley........

Re: Kitty and Chewy 4/12 -- Vet Today

Hope all went well at the vet visit today and that you get a better idea of Kitty's progress. So glad she's eating, so hopefully the weight gain will naturally follow.

Will check back later -

Good for Ms. Kitty getting back to a more normal routine, I don't blame you for wanting more, I would too.

Go Chewy!!

I hope the bloodwork is what you are hoping for.

Re: Kitty and Chewy 4/12 -- Vet Today

I have been out of town but was checking in on you & Kitty. I'm glad to see she's eating better!

I took Kitty to the vet today, for what I thought was going to be a quick recheck this morning. But, the vet wanted to repeat EVERYTHING! So, I had to leave her at the hospital all day. Here is a recap.....The echo showed no change in the heart. Her aorta and the right side of her heart are damaged, BUT her lungs and chest cavity were clear of fluids and the medicines appear to be keeping her stable. That being said, her heart has severe damage and is very fragile. Her Acute Pancreatitis seems to be resolving. The vet said I could take her off of the regular administration of Bupe and could just give on an as needed basis. I like the vet-- she said even give her a little for her arthritis on bad days! And, probably the best news was her Kidneys are handling all of the heart meds. Her CRT (main kidney indicator) was down to 2.2-- from 3.7 during the Ptitis. The 2.2 is actually the high side of normal! The vet is not certain if the severe Ptitis stressed the kidneys into higher numbers, or if the increased heart meds are getting better blood flow to the kidneys and helping them function better. I have read a lot about Acute Ptitis over the last couple of weeks....and it is TRUE that if it is severe enough it can cause acute kidney damage.

When Kitty initially went into the ER at the vet school and was dx with heart failure two weeks ago, I was told that even if they could get her better and her lungs cleared, that she MIGHT survive 2 months. Today, they were so happy with her progress, that they told me that she didn't need a recheck with cardilogy until June (that is two months away!)

She has lost 2 pounds during her illness and only weighs 7.5 pounds--maybe she can gain some weight!

And, this is interesting.......I normally buy my insulin from my Local Vet for $122.00 a vial-- I bought it today for $69 from the Vet School! Yes, the same Prozinc!

So, all in all---I am HAPPY with her report! She is eating and feeling better. I know her heart is bad, and I have been warned that it can go bad quickly...BUT, today....She is Better! :-D

Thanks to everyone for the continued support and Good Vibes!

Way to go Cool Kitty.
Nice score on the price of insulin from the vet school. Someone might want to add that tip to the sticky.
