Don't be embarressed, in the beginning we've all had it happen. Harley would sneak the kibble every chance that he got.
I had 1 civie who refused to switch to wet food for the longest time, I had to feed her in a room by herself with the door closed then I had to remember to pick up the dry and put it away when the door was open which didn't always happen, then one day I caught her sitting by the wet food bowl and she looked at me like "what? I'm just sitting here" so I would stand around the corner to try and catch her actually eating the wet and sure enough she was trying it, I let her eat both for about 1 more week then I packed up all the dry and gave it to my son for his daughters cat and havn't looked back, what a pia that was.
Although I'm glad her arthritis isn't bothering her right now and that she is more agile than you thought.
